Need some information on Thermographic imaging.

Anybody here know anything about it? I am wondering if they make 55mm thermographic imaging adapters for cameras, and if not, how much it'd cost, and what it would take to be able to get a camcorder or camera that has accurate thermographic capabilities.

We want to get one for various uses, as not only will it be cool to have and use, but it will be useful in heat appraising the house(s) without paying somebody else to do it.
