I know that HL2 will run on my laptop, I just don't know how well. I have 512 RAM and 2.66 GHz, the only real downfall being a crappy, probably permanant graphics card.

I thought that if I set the graphics to low I could run this game fairly quickly with minimal slowdown and similar problems.

Any and all input is appreciated.

Depends on how good the on-board GFX are.
If you turn it on low settings I'm sure it'll run with an acceptable framerate (15 - 35 FPS)

Onboard graphics aren't supported by ANY new games that I am aware of. Aren't they like, dx5 equivalent hardware? Most games require at least dx8 hardware. HL2 is like the last game ever that will run on dx7 hardware.

So... you could get it and find out, but it will most likely suck ass even if it does work.

There are on-board Radeon cards man... quite nice ones at that. Laptops are required to have onboard graphics.

ALL computers have onboard graphics, not just laptops. However, gaming requires actual real video cards, not onboard graphics. Now if he had a mobility x800 he'd be ok. If he has cheap intel onboard shit, then he's SOL. When someone says onboard I assume they mean the latter.

You know what I meant when I said "onboard graphics" man...
And all computer don't have onboard graphics processing... infact, 90% of Desktop motherboards dont.

Bullshit, more than 10% of the market is computer-in-a-box AOLers and they ALL have onboard graphics.

If by "computer-in-box" you mean Dell, Gateway, etc, etc, most of them come with commercial video cards in them... albite crappy ones.
And notice that I said "motherboards", not entire PCs.

No, I mean COMPUTER-IN-A-BOX... you know, the computers you get at walmart... they come in a box... they are like $300. Dells are custom built, not computers in a box. Dell's cheap computers also come with onboard graphics, not video cards. What does an average computer owner need a video card for? Dell has over a dozen preconfigurations that all have integrated graphics, not video cards. Gamers do not rule the desktop market.

To be more specific: I meant motherboards that you buy seperatly.
Yeah, alot of the POS "computer-in-a-box" come with intergrated graphics. And yes, most PC users don't need good GFX processors.

Unfortunetly, most people who don't game and use computers have no idea that they really don't need the newest P4 just to check their eMail and use the internet. Silly people. :D

Most of those people are using celerons. Office productivity can take advantage of better hardware(other than gpu) still.

Um, to be on topic, it IS an Intel(R), but I'm able to actually play DOOM 3, if at a bad framerate, but it's extremely playable. I've heard that HL2 is easier on the card than D3, so I'm feeling quite optimistic.

remember minium spec is a direct x 7 card which isn't much

I have an Intel 64mb onboard...HL2 works fine.

Please elaborate as to how good the graphics are, how fast it runs, how often you have problems, ect.
