Simple question, i'll explain later:

Is a 9200se (ATi) better than a 5200FX (nVidia)?

I don't know.

But I DO know that upgrading from either to the other is like throwing your money in a fire pit. You'll be spending money to go from 20 to 25 fps in HL2 if anything.

Really hoping you have a good explanation.

I am NOT buying the card. It's free.

EDIT: :p

Buying a free card eh? Anyways, I would say the 5200 is better becuase the SE cards are usually really bad compared to their normal versions, so I don't know. Thats my semi-educated guess.

old...cards...cant...remember....I just dont know ;( i wouldnt want either :p but I like ATI

Isn't the 9200SE DX 9? And the 5200FX not? I can't remember.

i did some research, and they are around same
depends on game being played

how do u get it for free?

5200 fx, like the other guy said se versions of cards usualy suck ass, so even if the 9200 chip is better than the 5200 chip the se versioin will tone everything down to major suckage.

the se is version is most likeley 64bit so go with the 5200 the 5200 is dx9 btw radeon 9200 cant do ps2.0 but the 9200 is better if u want it for hl2 so u can play in high shader which 5200 can not

It's actually a pretty funny story. I went into my shed to see my father working on other people's computers (As usual) and he turns around and quickly pull the 9200 out of the computer and said "Do you want it?"

So I quickly needed to know which card was better.

...Actually, that's not a funny story.

This card is not only for HL2, it is for all games in general.

Anyway, after consultation from Kyo. I am keeping the 5200.

If it's free and won't get use otherwise, why not just take it anyway?

Or take the 9200SE and overclock it to non-SE
But then you could do the same with the 5200

i dont think it really matter anymore there the same card except for 64bit memory and lack of ps2.0 support on the 9200 so obviously go with the 5200 no more info needed
