30 years into the future, set in a technologically advanced Tokyo that is ruled by a corrupt government and business corporations - Neotokyo is a Source modification with intense action and beautifully rendered environments designed to bring total immersion to the player. Recently, the Neotokyo team released a three-minute video showcasing one of the nearly completed maps Saitama. The map is huge in size, with both massive indoor and outdoor areas filled with extreme detail from top to bottom; in every nook & cranny. To download the video (.RAR form), click on the banner below.[br]
[br]Also created was a Neotokyo Wiki, which purpose is to be the ultimate resource for fans of Neotokyo - Information, screenshots, videos and news is what this Wikipedia will serve the public with. [br]More information and media can be found at both the official site for Neotokyo and its wiki. Also, be sure to visit their forums and IRC channel if you feel so inclined.

I've got the file on my PC, I was going to post this but you got there first :p but if someone has FTP I can upload.

Always knew this mod would kick ass, looks amazing. Love the little details like the bugs around the lights.

I'm uploading to Filefront. Edit: 10 minutes remaining

sorry for the delay...this was kind of leaked out under the radar to a smaller news site yesterday, and we weren't quite anticipating it to get picked up by a larger site.

So modest.

I'm not sure why I'm giving crits, since the author probably doesn't want any, and likely won't read any of this. Oh well. Here are my two cents anyway, for those who care:

The map looks nice, but kind of in a generic sort of way. It's pretty boxy. The level of detail isn't balanced, it's focused on small things like wires and pipes. You can easily tell what's a prop and what's a brush. There aren't enough medium or large details, and there's no architecture that seems particularly interesting. It almost seems like it went straight from orange map to texturing. I also think the lighting doesn't take advantage of HL2's lightmaps, as the light is mostly localized around the fixtures.

It seems like it's easy to get lost. In fact, I think the player actually gets lost in the video and has to turn around. It reminds me of this DaveJ blog entry. There's too many routes - it'll be difficult to learn and the conflict will be spread throughout the map, which won't be particularly good for teamplay.

But like I said, it looks nice anyway.

Why don't these teams release their videos on YouTube and Google Video? It would be much easier to view their videos, even with lower quality.

i have great respect for the mappers and moddelers of neotokyo, it's the only mod out there that has such a cool concept and background story. this map looks good. it's the first real map ive seen of neotokyo, and although the layout looks a bit difficult like Campaingjunkie said, i cant wait to play this.
Im looking forward too see the next neoktokyo map.
:D good luck guys, I <3 u !!1

the map looks AMAZING.....Wish i could map like that.....

I was enjoying the map and thought "Damn this is pretty damn good" then it came to that long empty corridor. I really hope the mapper throws something in there becuase said big empty corridors really throw me off.

The skybox and general outdoors areas where lovely I might add.

Is neotokyo sharing / working together with nuclear dawn? texture/prop wise?
I ask this cause i saw the same prop in both mods?

Map looks really cool though, has a nice Counter-Strike: Source feel to it, kinda like Nuke, great work!

Some nice touches in there - the moths round the lights (although the "hey! Look! We added some neat touches!" way of pointing it out was a bit unsubtle) and the blue glow round the screens.

It still looks a bit HL2-ish, though.

Looking good, but I also share Campaignjunkies concerns, there seems like a fair degree of dead space in places. Great map it you've got a high capacity server and large numbers, but could feel pretty empty otherwise. That blank U Corridor definitely needs looking at as it's a nade trap.

Top music by Logic on the footage though ;D

I agree.

I think the map looks pretty good. There's something a bit off, I don't know if it's the geometry, texturing, or lighting, but it's not enough to make the map anything resembling bad.

Do keep in mind it is still a work in progress, so what you see is only likely to improve.

I really did not want this on major news sites yet because it is not polished everywhere and was just meant to be shown to the people in our irc but oh well. This footage is actually pretty old and most of the crits have already been addressed, in fact I would go as far to say if you saw some areas of the map now compared to what it looked like in the video you might think its a different map. In any case thanks for the feedback, I think the final build will be an eye opener.

Dude, even if it is old footage it is looking very good (aside from our criticisms), seriously though you shouldn't be too precious about it. Ultimately no matter how much something is polished it's rare that it gets released and not further revised. Better to put something out there and build off of the feedback.

Right, it's a very well made map, I wasn't trying to say it wasn't :) just making an observation.

Ya I know, I take lots of pride in my work though and prefer people outside the development staff do not see it before I think it is ready that's all. Just noticed the comment about the chairs, as long as I have been on the team that model was available, it is very old and probably based off a real chair (I would have to ask the maker) but it definitely is not the same model as nd's, if you notice there are a different number of seats ;)

They both have 3 seats, who made the model for Neotokyo?

That is most certainly the same prop. As you can see the one in nd_japan is simply two sets of 3 placed next to each other.

Regardless, the map does look pretty good, if a little sparse in areas. I'm sure custom textures will help alot as well.

Special note has to go out to the models and artwork featured on the site - simply great stuff there!

edit: satan made the model

gato, one of our texture artists/modeler/animators. Don't see how it could possibly be the same model since we have no affiliation whatsoever with nd.

@zeta, yep, I am still in the process of making some new textures but as I previously stated I have already retextured many areas and detailed some of the bare parts of the map. This is why I don't like showing wip media but this was pretty much leaked so what can ya do :bonce:

Regardless of the fact that it is old footage, I still think it looks sweet.

Just watched the video, a very beautiful map and great piece of work. Good luck luck with your development, that shows a high standard of work to live up to.

I created that bench for the UT2K4 version of Neotokyo almost 3 years ago now I believe. The model is based off a real bench that I referenced from a google image search of benches. So it is quite possible ND found the same bench on google. :)
