Neowin.net had the opportunity to visit Valve offices last Friday and play Goldrush and the Medic, They also reported that the new update will be released this Tuesday, April 29th though the console version still doesn't have a release date yet.

Goldrush is a map specifically focused on pacing, so the player feels like they are part of an overall team focus instead of being a lone wolf. Each member of the team naturally has to focus on both the overall goal of either advancing or stopping the payload, but also on the local threats, like that heavy backed up by a medic. Goldrush has been designed taking all nine classes into account, which means there is truly a place for everyone and their favorite class to be useful.

Oh god. Also, I'm so glad the achievements have been trimmed.
 
Could the delay for the Team Fortress 2 update come because the team was balancing out some of the more difficult to obtain achievements? From the looks of things from one man's Flickr account, that may very well be the case.

The photos, which were uploaded yesterday, show that a number of the more lofty achievements that were announced have had the fat trimmed off of them. The achievement for healing 10,000,000 points as a medic? Cut back to a mere 1,000,000 points, a far more obtainable goal for the casual player. There are other such notable changes in the lineup, including only having to punch out two enemies with an uber'ed Heavy, destroy five buildings with a demo on one uber (compared to the original eight), and more. This still might not be the final list, but let's hope that it is.

Nice to see Valve listens to the community, though I already knew that.

Also I like the idea of milestone achievements whenever you unlock a weapon.

I like how it's coming out on the only day I have class.

I still doubt I will get a single new weapon. Holding out for pyro/engineer
 
Well, if it is toned down to 1 million, then I'll be sure to get all the achievements instead of 29 of them.
 
That sucks, they should have left the CRAZY achievements for the hardcore.

Heh so that'll be Wednesday morning for me. The one day this week I have nothing scheduled (Not a coincidence by any means). Wow.

I agree. I checked my stats, and I only had 600k healing points with 23 hours of medic. That was just insanity.
 
i still cant figure out how to find the full stats. i looked in the player stats file in my directory but it says i have 0

Have you tried to play a couple rounds of TF2 and then check it afterward?

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\<<account name here>>\team fortress 2\tf

Then right click the file that says "tf2_playerstats" and choose to open with either Notepad or Wordpad. I choose Wordpad as it formats it properly for you.
 
I saw them shots on Flickr last night. Looks great, however, I'll be playing GTA 4 :)
 
Good News, but poor timing. GTA IV will consume all the press coverage and peoples attention for a good few weeks.

I hope the TF2 update comes out during that time.

If it is anything like Valve's usual time scale, it won't come out til around 9 PM EST.

I have 196,806 with 4 hours, 49 minutes, 38 seconds of medic. Before it would have taken me a little less than 250 hours at my current rate, now it'll take me less than 25. I wish there was more of a middle ground, but whatever.

its only medic achievements....their are still the other 8 classes which will be released as the years pass.

Keep searching. There's a 'medic' section separate from the total section. The total section doesn't mention totals anywhere though.
 
With achievements like Chief of Staff and many of the things that would normally occur with pure luck, it appears it will be a while before someone gains all of the new weapons. I'm not a fan of waiting even longer.

But I have a devious plot that includes lots of Steam friends and cooperation even from the enemy team. Since some of the achievements include and encourage playing with friends anyhow...

-Would that be considered cheating?
-Is anyone interested in joining me?

Honestly, I'm not expecting it until midnight their time, which'll be 3am tomorrow here. But hey - if I'm wrong, it'll be a pleasant surprise. :D
