Guys - I just paid $99 bucks for this product called Nero 6 Ultra Edition. It says it can copy / backup CDs. I insert the Nero 6 CD, and right after installing it, attempt to back it up and it gives me read errors. I updated to the latest version of Nero 6 today, tried this with the CD - not a single scratch, scuff, or damage on it - and it does not work. I copied all the files over to a folder on my hard disk and it copied them all over perfectily.

What can I do to get these CDs backed up so in a few years when its all scratched up I have a backup?

I dont want to spend any more $$ because I already paid $100 dollars for a product that was suppost to work but does not.

Most likely because they copy protected their own cd ;) Thats my guess, other than that I dont know. By the way, in case you have a dvd burner, it won't let you backup most commercial dvds because they are all copy protected now. If you want to backup dvds though I recommend downloading AnyDvd from http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html. Just download that program and run it in the background while you backup your dvds. It works great.

So if the CD gets scratched or damaged in some odd way - or if a kid gets near it - im basically ****ed out of $100 (and the other $1000+ worth of games / software CDs I have), from my understanding - am I correct?

Ill make shure never to buy a product from Ahead again.

Also teaches you to not update programs, since Nero 5.9 did fine.

This certinaly goes against all this "Disaster Recovery" stuff we have been talking about at DeVry in LAN Tech & Design and WAN Tech & Design classes.

Law suits are going on about that everyday! Its not just Ahead that is doing it, every game or program you buy now are always copy protected. It is stupid that we can't back them up though, but obviously if we can back them up. People are going to copy them and give them to friends. Same ole' battle I guess. You can try the CloneCD prorgam from that link that I gave before. Never tired it before, but they claim it can copy any cd. Might want to give that one a try.

Whoa, calm down. Just go here: http://www.ahead.de/us/nero-up.php and download them and burn them onto a disk. Make sure you put your S/N in notepad and copy it with the programs.
