try rejoining a different server (ie us.quakenet.net, or uk.quakenet.net, or de.quaknet.com, or just plain irc.quakenet.net)

It's not our server, it's quakenet.
And if a server splits, it's usually nothing to do with quakenet, but a problem with the local server, so as SidewinderX said, try connecting to a different server.

Find which server the majority of the people you talk to use and use the same one, if it happens it wont be so bad then.
