Ok, i'm stuck here.

I've got two PC's. I want to network them. They're both running Windows XP. I am currently linking them via a NB5580W ADSL Integrated Gateway from Netcomm. They are already sharing an internet connection; i want them to share files as well.

My question is how. I've tried running the wizards; they work, they set up a network, but the computer don't seem to be connected to each other. They were connected to each other - i know this because i have the remnants of a network on my computer, in shortcuts that point to a path that no longer exists - but now they aren't. My question is thus: What am i missing, and how do I connect them?

Did you reboot both PC's? Turn off / configure ZoneAlarm? Are you using a crossover cable, or a lan / networking cable?

Usually the way people get PC's to share an internet connection, is to network them, and allow one to access the net through the other. Are you sure that is not already the case? Other than that, networking can be a fiddly thing, with 1000's of things that can mess with it. You probably won't get a solution here. You usually need someone that knows what they are doing to physically be at your PC's.

Hell, I've heard of media players preventing a network from connecting up. It can be a long and tiresome road of trial and error, especially if you don't know what you are doing. Assigning ip's, self assigning ip's, DNS adresses, firewalls, crossover cables, networking cables, all the crappy little programs you have installed messing with each other, XP home / pro / etc not too compatible etc etc etc....

Good luck.
