Ive been looking for a good role playing game like diablo, and it came down to Neverwinter Nights or Bauldur's Gate 2. I played the demos for both of them and i still couldnt decide which one is better. I have more then enough money for both of them, but i am saveing the money to buy the newer games that will be comeing out (fable, sims2, RTW, Hl2, hopefully.) Whichever one i choose i will be getting the gold edition. So i want know, which one of these games are more fun, and will keep me occupied for a while? Also, if you have another game in mind please tell me, thanks.

Edit: sorry, wrong section, mods please move, thanks.

NWN is easier, it has alot of decent mods, and its last expansion pack is IMO just as fun as Baldurs Gate 2 (Although its alot shorter).

Baldurs gate 2 is IMO a much more in depth game and is much more fun. However it is also very difficult and once you have beaten the game there isn't really much else to do. I think Baldurs Gate 2 is also longer.

I own both and truthfully I am not sure which one I would get if I could only get one.

Baldurs Gate 2 would probably be easy to find used on Ebay or something so you could spend a minimal amount of money on it and get both games instead.

I have only played the NWN demo, but I would say get NWN because of its online features.

Baldurs Gate 2 is a one time thing. NWN is not, since there is over 4000 user made modules availible (only around 10% of the can be considered good though). I say wait until NWN: Platinium comes out (contains original + 2 expansions).

I'd go for BG2.

It's an epic in every sense of the word and probably the best rpg i've played.

NWNs strength is in multiplayer - and it really is good in this respect :) Not that the single player is bad (it's actually very cool) it's just not as good as BG2.

If you're after an involving single player role play experience then it doesn't get better than BG2 (and the expansion expansion)

Planescape Torment is definately worth checking out too. It can't match the scope of BG2, but in terms of quality writing and story telling it's as good as rpgs get. Both are better than NWN in single player imo.

Baldur's Gate II. Best PC rpg I've played in a long time. It's pretty epic and you'll have lots of fun. I liked NWN but not as much as BG2 mainly because I liked having a party instead of going solo with 1 companion. Also, the setting in BGs are all great. NWN seemed a bit repetitive.

If you're looking for games more like Diablo I'd recommend NWN over BG2. Also check out Dungeon Siege, the multiplayer is a lot of fun

My vote is "other"

I actually prefer Baldurs Gate 1. I find the game unfolds at a much better pace, allowing you to free form adventure as you try to solve what's happening. Baldurs Gate 2 while fun I feel overly forced you into the plot after a certain point. Sure you could wander off on a side quest but it really doesn't make an awful lot of sense to do so.

So my vote, is other, Baldurs gate. Although Planescape is also very good its a little strange for my tastes.

Depends on what you want. If you want a diablo-like, get Dungeon Siege. Out of the two you mentioned, BG2 is better. NWN's single player is basically a series of FedEx 'get me these 4 items' quests, but apparently the mods and multiplayer make up for it. I haven't played BG2, but I've heard pretty good things about it.

Baldurs Gate by far. Much more interesting characters and places to go. NWN has disappointed me a great deal. It seemed as a mere Hack n' Slash game. Bleh, Baldurs Gate ALL the way!

Neverwinter Nights has little or no roleplaying. For example, the first chapter: you've got a city with four parts and the central hub that connects to them. Every part is infested with enemies, and crates that contain gold and magic items. So it's just Diablo 3D, only not as fun. Each section contains a boss enemy and an item you need to finish your quest.

NWN's graphics are boring, as every area looks identical.

Baldur's Gate II outshines NWN in every possible way. Graphics, music, sound, gameplay, story, roleplaying... and BG2 has a LOT to do. With a "gold edition" you'll also get the expansion pack that directly follows the original story without going off on another tangent.

As much as I loved creating Neverwinter Nights modules, go with Baldur's Gate 2.

Neverwinter nights for online play
Baldurs gate for SP

NWN has brilliant online play, especially on a decent server.
however NWN's SP stinks hardcore. (same for all it's expansions)

Bah, HOTU was at least as good (with the exception of chapter 1) as BG2. To short though :(

You gotta admit it is fun to order an Archduke of Hell to die and he is forced to obey...

out of those two, i'd say i preferred BG2. never played NWN online or bothered to get any of the mods, didn't seem very appealing.

my 'other' choice would have to be Morrowind. one of my all time favourite games.

I would not recommend morrowind, you spend to much time just walking around. The gameplay is not that fun and the NPCs lack personality. It also uses a learn by doing system wich is one of the worst systems for advancements you can have.

I agree.

Morrowind is a good game, but definately an acquired taste.

BG2 is a safer bet - everyone I know whose played BG rates it as one of their top rpg's.

If you like star wars then take Knights of the old republic..IT IS the best damn RPG available ATM!

Damn i voted wrong, lol i voted neverwinther nights, NWN is not bad but i like baldurs gate 2 better
