... guy's. I've created a new sprays tutorial, which you might all like to take a look at.

I've tried to go as much in depth about transparencies and a few other concepts not discussed in other spray tutorials as I possibly could and I hope you enjoy it:

100% perfect guide, couldnt be done better, puts all the rest to shame! thanks, this really helped me get the alpha channels correct. i was cursing photoshop trying to put a white overlay on my picture and then copy it into the alpha channel, but you explained exactly how to do it. i did eventually get it done (before you posted this guide) but found it a VERY long way round, yours is much simpler :p

im thinking this tutorial deserves to be a sticky

I wouldn't go that far, but thanks kevin :p Anyone have any questions about this tutorial dont be afraid to ask (as I'll quite happily update it with the new info).

May i just say something? What is the point of a shadow? Spray paint does not have a shadow. I mean it looks cool, but not realistic. But i bet you know that already.

Since when have "sprays" been realistic? They have an invisible magical spraypaint can that makes full color pictures appear in one instantaneous pass? I mean, I draw the line at animated sprays (and sprays with shaders applied to them, as some people say Source will allow) because they're just plain annoying... but if you want realism you're in the wrong place.

I think you missied the point.

I included a shadow to give people some insight into using various transparencies in an alpha channel, which could be applied to one of many things... take the image of Saddam Hussein on the map for instance. Using the alpha channel it's possible to 'rub-out' the head of el-dictator (and various other parts of the image to 'age' it) as is demonstrated actually in the map!

Sweet guide, will use it later to make a porno spray, aiite.

Bit busy atm tho :(

Very well written, Awsome effects, and it works, I understood everything. I Rate this tutorial 10/10.

The Vtex thingy wont make vmt / vtf files. :|

Make sure you're following the directory stucture ('materials' & 'materialsrc')and that you have a valid TGA file (i.e. 128 x 128, 256 x 256, etc).

Man that HL2 logo looks so good...unbelieveable.

Photoshop CS is out now, so 7.0 would be pretty cheap to buy anyway being the 'old' version. Still does all the stuff I want though.
