new and need help

hey everybody im very new to this board, just purchased half life 2 today and went along installing it, gave me some trouble when i put in the cd key, first time said incorrect second time it went through and said pending, i cannot connect to steam i keep putting in my account name and password and it keeps saying invalid password/account please check....and so i changed my password just in case, still not working, what the heck do i do, i really upset cuz i was really exciting that i got the game and now i dont know what happend, any help is very appreciated...thankyou

i dont get it, i would really like to play my game and im so frustrated, what exactly do i put it for account and password, please anybody it keeps saying login to steam failed?? is my cd key alrite? or do i have to buy another half life 2?

The account you made on steam, logged in with, and registered the cd key with. You need to log into that each time, remember the email you used and the password. Once you've logged in you can play any of the games in steam you have purchased. From what i know, thats HL2, CS : S, and HL2DM if you havent yet downloaded it. If you have bought HL2 once and registered the cd key onto your account, you do not need to buy it again!

i returned my one that i purchased yesterday completely uninstalled everything and got a new one for free exchange at my work and it did the same thing after i enter the cd key, it says opening cd key with steam then when that bar finishes it says this.........
your subscription to half life 2 game of the year has not been completed because steam servers are unable to currently process the transcation
you wont be able to play half life 2 game of the year until the subcription process is complete . we are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. the steam team is working on the situation and will notify u as soon as the transcation is complete

Well first off, you returned a non defective product. You just log in with your Email Address as your account name, and your password to whatever you set it as.

Second, it means that the steam activation servers are bussy. Try tommorow.

Seriously, that's a bummer. I had different issues when I first installed, but that was a very long six hours for me.

That's the problem. Officially, the GOTY edition isn't out until tomorrow. Try again tomorrow.
