So as if I weren't having enough fun already, I now have my case as well as the replacement motherboard and CPU. Now, after I've put everything together (again!), it won't even power on. No clicks, no flashes, no case lights, no fans, nothing. I was really hoping this would be going better... any ideas?

so no led lit up on the motherboard to indicate power flowing through the board?

If you have another system in the house, yoink the PSU from that and try it. Double check you have everything plugged in correctly. If it works, you have a dead PSU, if it dosen't, you have either plugged it in wrong, or your MB is dead.

But answer giants question first, cos if theres green LEDs showing on the MB, you've just wired the power button in wrong.

I don't think there's an LED on this model. I just tried using another power supply and it booted up... but it doesn't make sense that my power supply is shot, because it was working before I RMA'd the motherboard, and I haven't used it for anything since.

I noticed that when I turn the switch on the power supply to on (the one that doesn't work with the motherboard), I hear a very high pitched ringing sound, almost like a dog whistle. Any ideas what that means?

Sounds like a faulty capacitor in there. If the PSU is making any noise thats audible without it being right next to your ear (other than the fan noise) then its not quite right. I would try it with the computer the other PSU came from, and if it dosen't work, RMA it.

I know your gonna hate me for asking this, but you sure that you had the power button set to 1? You sure you had it cabled in correctly? I'm sure you did check everything, but given that everything appears to work on its own, its worth rechecking to be sure.

Failing that, the only thing I can think of is that the PSU can't supply enough power and the MB is shutting it down as soon as you turn it on. Do any of the fans etc on the MB/case kick in at all, even if only for half a second?

Yup, everything was cabled correctly... I think I unplugged all the case cables and replugged them like 3 times

I don't think its a problem with the amount of power... It's 500W and all I have plugged in is the motherboard. Also, it was working fine last week when I had it in my other case. Now nothing turns on at all, not even a little.

Also I tried with another PSU and it started up, but I can't use it because it doesn't have all the connectors I need.

Only thing I can think to suggest is to try the PSU with a different PC. My money is still on the PSU. I'm guessing that whilt its rated to 500w, its broken in such a way that it can't now provide the power it should, even though it works when you jump it.

Sorry, I know this can't be any fun, but its really a process of elimination. Something you have dosen't work, the only solution will be to test everything untill you can be sure what it is.
