New Computer Build

How set are you on that Raptor? It is my understanding that in practical applications, Raptors don't perform that much better than regular drives, at least not enough to warrant the price tag. The HDD that I always recommend is the Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB. I've had one for a year, and it is quite good. It's one of the fastest 7200 RPM drives out there, and I cannot overstate how quiet it is. I'm not saying that you absolutely shouldn't get the Raptor, its just that this is a great way to shave $200 of the price tag.

Yeah, save on the hard drive. It doesn't look like the rest of your system is with workstation level parts so I'm not sure what you would be doing that would require that drive.

The WD 640GB is the next fastest drive in most things. A lot lower price too @ $95 shipped. If you put that $200 saved toward a better video card that would be a lot better. Or even a better monitor... :)

yeah a lot of people have been telling me to go with another hard drive. i guess i'll drop the raptor and make it cheaper, and the ram is only 80$ so why not? i'll mostly be gaming on this rig btw.
