My friend just got his new computer, and it wont start up.

His specs are

Athlon 64 3000+ venice

ABIT AN8 Ultra

1 gb ocz ram

Rosewill 500 watt psu 24 pin

MSI 7800 gtx

Old beige atx case (from his old computer, it works)

Make sure the 4 pin and 20 pin connectors are plugged in. Make sure the PSU is set to the correct volts and is also on. Make sure the power switch is plugged in the right way.

Make sure the plug from the power button on the front of the case is in the right pins on the board.

ensure the power bar is on. This is generally indicated, by a "light" that comes on. Usually such light is coloured red, but dont be worried if it is another colour.

As well as checking that, check all the other things that plug into the motherboard like usb, firewire etc. My mate had plugged the front usb connectors wrongly into teh motherboard when he got a new case and it was causing the pc to not start.

Yeah, those things can be a pain. It's blisteringly hard to get them all in, since mobo manufacturers always scrunch the pins up together in a 1in x .2in rectangle, and it can be very easy to accidentally put the plugs in backwards, then you gotta do it ALL over again.

Plus, they don't fit very tightly, so it's easy to knock one out trying to get another in.

We've already done all that except checking the front usb headers and stuff. I'll tell him to do that.
