I'm trying to get a new computer I almost have enough money for it, so I was wondering if anyone has any good idea's for gaming computers within the $1000 range?

I could give you a list but there was an article on this, saw it a couple days ago... here it is.

http://www.anandtech.com/guides/showdoc.aspx?i=2177

Although they make a couple suggestions in there that I do not like, such as a 9600 pro for the video card. You could easily get a 9800 pro in a system for under $1000. My friend's gonna build a system for under $1000 also, I'll be right back...

Processor: $175

Motherboard: $117 or $128 respectively

or

Ram: $155

Video Card: $194

Hard Drive: $99

DVD/CD Burner: $63

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=27-152-027&depa=0

Case: $26

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11-156-019&depa=0

Power Supply: $55

Whew ok well that's a very nice system, so far the price is $884 without shipping. I don't know what you want with monitor, speakers, and keyboard/mouse but just find some good ones within your price range. I don't know if there are any better hard drives than what I chose for the price range, as for the CD/DVD burner I have that one and it's great, burns and reads CD's and DVD's for a good price.

Well, thank you all for the suggestions and I will keep them in mind when I am looking for a new computer.

As soon as I get my new computer I'll be back to playing CS(i was good enough for cal im) :E and HL.

Umm Russian... you're forgetting the case, hard drive, power supply, monitor, keyboard/mouse, speakers, CD/DVD drive... And that Athlon 64 would kill the P4 3.0ghz, and it's about $55 cheaper.

I suggest you build your own rig dude, believe it or not, Your probably gonna spend more buying one already made cuz the ppl add profit to price. Now when ya build your own you get this.

1.) Save money
2.) You get control
3.) More or less better performance
4.) And you got a better view of what you can buy.

What i mean by number 4 is that you can vary your options, like mediocre power supply, good graphics, cpu, mediocre ram, hd. You have all those options open to you when you build your own, my rig below cost me 1550 so far, it would have cost me 2000+ if i bought it pre-assembled by a company.

Did you OC? Mine is at 2.96Ghz (5:4 divider, 447FSB) :P

As for custom computers, I agree. I am never buying a brand name computer AGAIN. So far I've built 3 computers.

Head on over to Newegg.com... :D Otherwise I have a premade computer built for around $800. I can send you the Word doc...it was for my friend, it runs any game you throw at it (with a 9600XT). Includes links and prices (all from NewEgg)

EDIT: It's $748 (updated). It overclocks past 3Ghz perfectly. :D
