New DOW expansion announced

I was checking one of my warhammer forums a few minutes ago and theres another Dawn of war expansion pack to be released called soulstorm.

THQ has today confirmed the development of a new standalone expansion to Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War, entitled Soulstorm. Once again in production at Relic Entertainment, Soulstorm follows previous expansion Dark Crusade as a standalone offering, though the action will take place an entire star system.

Soulstorm will include two new factions, including the Dark Eldar, bringing the total number of playable groups for the series to nine, together with air units, and additional depth to the multiplayer experience with a new medal system.

"Relic Entertainment has set the standard for technical excellence and innovation in the RTS genre," said Bob Aniello, senior vice president of worldwide marketing, THQ. "Dawn of War - Soulstorm continues that tradition as a standalone title featuring all-new, brutally addictive single and multiplayer game-play that will hook newcomers and skilled Dawn of War veterans alike."

"In Dawn of War - Soulstorm, we've taken Games Workshop's epic war from one planet to an entire star system," said Tarrnie Williams, general manager, Relic Entertainment. "Allowing gamers to play nine unique races, introducing air units and providing multiplayer achievements for the first time creates a tremendous amount of new and challenging strategic gameplay for all players."

Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War - Soulstorm is due for release on PC from Spring 2008.

This has been known for a little while, although not officially until now. Dark Eldar are one of the new races, and the other one is probably Tyranids given that there isn't much else it could be, since Eldar, Orks, Space Marines, Chaos, Tau, Necrons, Imperial Guard, and Dark Eldar would all be taken by then, and there are no major other races besides Tyranids, unless it's another Imperium army like daemonhunters.

I really enjoyed Dawn of War and Dark Crusade, and to a lesser extent Winter Assault. As much as I liked Crusade, though, I thought that the non-linear campaign wasn't as good as DOW. I prefer the story driven, mission orientated RTS game to the campaign. Too bad they aren't going back to that.

Still, excellent games.

I'm pretty much all about MP when it comes to RTS, so I'm not worried about the campaign too much. WA wasn't that great (or so I felt... IG are no fun to play), but DC was a great expansion, and this one looks to be awesome too.

i played multiplayer DoW loads and loads (and loads), its a brilliant rts. that being said..... ANOTHER expansion?

just make a sequal lads?

sort of the grey knights (marines dark crusade new unit) are part of deamonhunters, but if its the inquisition it'll be things like sisters of battle and grey knight terminators.

I hope its 'nids, as the only other non-subfaction that could be introduced is really the imperial inquisition and Grey Knights are already in. Still, should be fantastic!

I want it to be nids as well, but i don't think relic want the whole "ZOMG ZERG RIPOFF!!!1111one".

actually starcraft was supposed to be a 40k game but GW abandoned the project so blizzard decided to change it, hence the protoss = eldar, zerg = nids, terran = marines/guard

That was it. God I hated them. I think I may dig out some of my old Codexes and flip through them. *nostalgia*

They should make a 40k simulator like the actual game. I'd buy it... way cheaper than the real thing.
