New Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion screens!

Meh, just old screenshots that GameSpy didn't add until yesterday.

:/

Looks great though.

very detailed although a little too idealistic ...it's almost the complete opposite of doom3 engine. the art direction is a little bland ...but the level of detail is astonishing

oh and I wouldnt upgrade just yet, the game wont be released till sometime mid-late 2006

It's an RPG.

And that looks really amazing, like Morrowind :D and I asume an engine that doesn't render backfacing polygons, that's what killed my performance in morrowind :p

Meh looks like the same old screens to me all their screens seem to look alike to me hope ther is more variation in the environments.

does it use unreal 3? sorry i havn;t been following this game much

I really don't like the sky no more.. Morrowind had perfect sky, this looks kinda dated.

-

Agent.M, where its based its not likely to have deserts and snowy peaks, its only set in a small area of Tamriel.

In house engine...

So is this a rpg? if not what is it?
You should play morrowind.
You can go anywhere, do anything. NPC's will follow a schedule make decisions on how to eat, sleep, everything. About 1,000 NPC's will be included. They will each be able to make there own quests in real time.
(About as complex as fargoths quests).

Tons of mods will come out for it just as with morrowind.

You will pretty much be able to take anything off any bookshelf(aswell as reading each book), table, etc.. just as in morrowind. A very very detailed world.

There is a main quest that you can follow, but do not have to. You can join many guilds which will give you quests and money.

Overall The TES series is the most unlinear type of game you can really find.

I simply cant wait :) I just hope it has a TAD more structure then III

Wow, and i thought Doom3 looked good. :)
I hope this game will be almost as big as Morrowind... and is that HDR in the church screenshots or just over-done bloom?

That would be a bloom I believe. Because there are "Interior" and "Exterior" levels.
Meaning when you enter a house you actually have to load a new level. Why? This allows them to make the houses and all indoor areas really really detailed, and place tons of item in each and every one. It will also help inperformance.

The game will I believe, have HDR.

I didnt like morrowind at all, so i'm skipping this

What didn't you like in morrowind. They are fixing up alot of things. Like Combat and Magic for one.
You should really read up on it.

Morrowind was alright...
The combat felt really awkward though.
I mean in FPS mode, I expect to hit the enemy immediately...not do a roll-the-dice type thing.

Which you would only do if the enemy is completly incapable of any sort of defense.

Morrowind was too large for my tastes. It simply was not fun to spend 20 min of walking Real time to collect some herbs.

Morrowind was pretty cool, but the lack of spoken conversations really detracted from the immersive feel, as did the reusing of faces and voices. It was very big, but I never really got the feeling I was doing anything in particular.

Better combat, better graphics- sounds good thus far. Definitely be keeping an eye on this one.

The thing is that there is so many diffrent things to do in morrowind.
You dun have to collect herbs..go kill somebody :)

I'm a member of the Elder Scrolls forum...

Three new screens were added yesterday,

But one of which was already featured in PC GAMER

Um this game is the ultimate RPG. The ultimate.

I loved Morrowind The Elder Scrolls(Xbox), and it was one of my favorite games of all time.

The size and beauty of the outdoor environments was breath-taking at the time. It seemed every tree was unique with great looking branches, etc. Stealing items was a challenging thrill that got my heart beating and really had me nervous.

The graphics are dated now, and the fighting worked, but honestly, was pretty crummy, however the hand-to-hand was uniquely awesome -in a strange way.

But Now that I have a PC, online Massively Multiplayer games like World of Warcraft and EverquestII offer a communty of real people to interact with, and offline RPG's just can't compare.

I will still buy it without a doubt, and will still play it, I just can't see getting hooked real hard playing a 1 player RPG anymore.

I wonder how the battle will turn out, hopefully it is completely better.

Did I mention this game is going to be the Ultimate offline RPG? Looks INCREADIBLE.

Looks effing amazing. I loved Morrowind. I dunno Virus - I think the outdoor environments still look great, especially each towns different architecture - and the skies. The skies were so good, especially on a clear night and you could see all the stars and moons :)

I tried to reinstall it today, but to my horror one of the discs was broke!!! ;(

Seriously I hope Oblivion has really good combat, something more FPS like. The combat in Morrowind was pretty dire at times.

Yeah they are overhauling the combat completely.

Morrowind + Some of it's 100,000 Plugins = Super Enjoyable Game.
