Alright say I have a 240w power supply In my 2.8ghz comp right now but Im looking at getting the 9800pro sooner than later. Now for the 9800 pro, is the 300w psu the minimum or recommended? And if i do need a new psu does anyone know of a quality one that is rather small seeing that I dont have much room in my current case to house that big a one. (As you can tell im trying to avoid getting a new case :) ) Any info is apppreciated. Thnx.

300Watt min recommended. Some have ran it on their 250watt PSU while others have blown their 250watt PSU...

There is one standard size for ATX PSU's.
There is also a mini ATX PSU standard and then of course non-standard PSUs.

Is yours standard or is it a special PSU from HP, Compaq, Gateway, Dell etc?

Why? would it make a difference if it was from compaq? cause mine (250watt) is and i'm getting a 9800 pro?!

standard psu from sony. The comp is a Vaio rs-322. Came stock with a2x256mb pc2700ram, gfmx440 gfx crd and this 240 power supply. I check the manufacture, i turn off the comp first. hehe, brb.

hehe
The only reason it might matter is if you need to upgrade then you need to know if you can buy a standard PSU from the shelf or if you have to go through them (Compaq,Dell etc).

Notice the 4 screw holes on this standard ATX PSU here.
I can be upsidedown but just the placement has to be the same.

Can you read the sticker on the side of the PSU that lists the +3.3volt, +5volt, and +12volt rails along with the amps that are on each one. E.G. 12v+ : 20A

ya i see the list on the side of it (+3, +5, etc.) what are you looking for on that list? I notice at the bottom the sticker says 295.4 watts max. Does that mean anything? FYI i have about 3 inches of depth to work with and that seems to be the only issue I have right now with size.
