im considering upgrading my stock heatsink and fan that i have on my athlon xp 2200 @1.9
can you guys recommend a strong heatsink/fan combo at a reasonable price?
also want something relatively quiet
i was thinking of something by vantec
also, are they simple to install?
thanks

I would suggest this.
It cools very well especially for it's price. And it's not blaring loud like a lot of Thermaltake coolers.

There is a pad on the bottom of the heatsink that it should come with or you can remove the pad and apply a paper thing layer of thermal compound.
Céramique is non-conductive.

Just need a flat head screwdriver to clip the retention piece inplace. Don't miss and nail the board. :O

says its been discontinued
is that by the manufacturer or by that particular distributor?

slight problem Asus, its discontinued. lol.

I've heard good things about this. Though I just looked at the Db rating and it looks a little high...

I updated the link.
Discontinued...gasp!
They have em at newegg though!

the updated heatsink is for pentium chips

How much are you looking to spend? An actual price range would be nice to help you out. Plus, what do you care about more, noise or cooling performance?

im not willing to spend more than 50 bucks canadian
id like to find a balance between noise and performance
but if it comes down to it id obviously like something that gets the job done well

Take a look at this. The only concern you should have is about if the weight of the heatsink and if it fits your motherboard.

Check out this link to see if you have enough space in your motherboard here.

[Edit]: I've heard from several people that the weight is fine as long as you don't move your computer case to much. But, its your call if you want to take the risk. Also, this heatsink is supposedly really really quiet.

hows the thermaltake volcano 12?
ive read a few comments and they all seem positive
only downside is that its very heavy
too heavy for the socket A spec apparently
comments?

I guess the Aero coolers are gone for Socket A.

Most thermaltake coolers need to be turn on full to cool effectively. (Loud)
Volcano 12 is the one cooler I havn't really looked into. I also have heard some good things about it.
I think they still use the clip though.
Heavy heatsinks and clips don't go well together.

I'd probably recommend the Zalmans for the cost.
Unless you have a spare case fan then you could use this sucker.
It uses a backplate and 4 spring loaded screws for mounting. No clips.

ive ruled out the volcano 12 cause of its weight
not necessary for my 2200
this looks good

I think my head would explode if I had to listen to 52.5 Db for an extended period of time.

lol that looks old. im gettign the zalman a7000cu myself.

only downside is weight plus the fan top is open, i wonder if i can solder my own gril on top of it.

haha yea.
I have a delta 80x80x35 fan. That's how it is. (I don't use it)

Copper coolers are better.

looks good, will consider
this also looks good
That is a very nice cooler and they bundle it with TMD fan. Awesome.
They used to sell that heatsink with no fan for around 40$. And that was after it had been out for a while.

The newer thermalrights are better but that is an awesome value.
