New HL2: E1 interview on IGN (New screenies) {56k warning}

Today IGN posted a new interview with Erik Johnson of Valve about Episode 1. Below are some juicy pieces of information or quotes that give some hints towards the gameplay or the story [POTENTIAL SPOILER WARNING!!!]

"In Episode One, Gordon's actions are going to have far reaching repercussions, affecting much more than just City 17." - Not just set in City 17?

"In Episode One, the G-Man loses control of Gordon due to the rise of a third power." - Due to? So it was the third power that snatched him out of stasis? Curiouser and curiouser.

"Each Episode will be introducing you to more of the Combine." - There are still enemies we haven't seen. Will we be given a sneak peak at the end of Episode 1 like we were to the Stalker and Synth at the end of HL2?

"At the end of the Episode One there will be a short teaser for Episode Two." - Looks like I just answered my own question.

"Episode Two has been in production for some time, and we'll be talking about it in more detail immediately after Episode One is made available." - Looks like they really are keeping their promise of "faster games."

Those are the best new ones. Some show very similar pictures to ones we have already seen or ones shown here.

Wow, energy bridge, I haven't seen that before:dozey: . How about they showed us some other enemy units, I don't care about the ****ing stalkers.

Nah, if they're going to include new enemies I want to see them when playing the game instead.

Oh wow, I didn't even catch that. I was wondering why they just showed a closeup of Dog and Alyx, but until I read your post I didn't realize the background was blurred. Cool, I look forward to that. Having seen depth of field in the DoD tech video, but not being a player of DoD, it'll be nice to see how it feels in-game.

No way. They managed to ruin alot of HL2 by releasing stuff - I don't want to see any new enemies or weapons in media releases. Seeing them in-game is far better.

Let's get to the meat of things here: from the interview:
Erik Johnson: The G-Man used the events of Black Mesa to transform Gordon into a powerful tool, and he used that tool to overthrow Dr Breen. In Episode One, the G-Man loses control of Gordon due to the rise of a third power. Clearly, he's not very happy about this
Apparently we'll meet the 'third power'? (convenient Hitler metaphor if anyone's interested).

Really good interview. Interesting how they always give away so little info, but the info makes me want to play the game so damn much. Bring on HL:episode 1.
 
On the steam update news thing valve said they feel episode 1 is their best game yet. Hope that's true and not just routine marketing speak.
 
Is that a Stalker on fire in the first picture? The leg/stumps look like one.

Fuppin' awesome stuff anyway.

I'm loving this excitement!! It reminds me of 2004 waiting for Doom 3 and HL2.

In fact, i'm even more excited for ep 1 then i was for hl2, only because we're supposed to get answers AND we get to find out who the 3rd power is!!
 
Is it just me or does Alyx's hair look allot more, detailed... with the strands clearly visible?
 
Dog looks amazing. And yeah Alex looks a lot more free flowing, like her shirt and hair and body are all separate.

Why can't you get it through Steam? I still had dial-up when the CS: S beta came out, and had no problems. Did take a long time, though...

They'd be doing that because they are falling from a walkway and their bodies are falling into gone-awry energy beams.
 
I really hope that there is less gravity gun gameplay, because I find the pure shooter elements to be much more fun and chalenging.
 
I didn't really use the grav gun that much. Mostly when it was necessary. But I think they've added a whole host of new things to make it just that little bit more interesting. Personally, I'm looking forward to the new grav gun gameplay.

Do EA games come quick to you when there released? Vivendi published HL2, EA is now is there retail guys.

They must be hitting the beams too. You can see that the soldiers and stalker are in a falling position.

Weapons disitergrated the moment they dropped in the citadel anyway. Regardless whether the G-gun killed them or not.

Makes the gamer use the Ggun.
