New HL2DM map - Dm_dockside beta

Finally, a decent looking map! I'll try this out on my server right away, thanks!

that welllllll reminds me of one of the single player levels in the leak that didn't make it to the full version....where you have to load that boat full of gas canisters

edit: OH very nice btw

Just finished DLing and mess around a bit by myself... great job! Very well designed, and very balanced.

You should enter that for the map making contest. Definetly the best community mad emap I have played so far for HL2MP.

im DLing now, looks excellent. looks amaziing- i thought it was by valve at first.

It was very well designed, but I had trouble playing over the LAN...every once in a while, I changed speeds, and sometimes my guy even started flying... is this because it's beta?

Other than than, great map, probably even better than overwatch...

It would be cool if you made it a bit bigger, added some more trailers, and added the crane from sandtraps.

Nah, I don't think so. At least you'd have to be able to kill the guy controlling the crane fairly easily. And make sure the body would fall out of the cockpit and not render the crane useless for others. Though I suppose bodies disappear after a while?

That why to play in teams.

I'm quite happy with the size at the moment. It's highly unlikely that the crane would work properly in DM.

I found an exploit you might want to fix. By using the grav jump at one point, you can access an area you obviously weren't supposed to.

I used the buzzsaw from the barrel pyramid in that exact place to access that ledge that is normally blocked off by a fence.
By grav jumping, you can go up and check it out.

Ah, the seamy underbelly of Dockside. Not much to look at, huh?

I guess you should either make some player clipping over that ledge (like you did over the fence, which I also tried), or you could bust down that fence and make that area part of the level. I know the level is big enough as it is, but it would appease people like me at least...

Great map Pi Mu, I absolutely love it. I'm glad I could (hopefully) contribute to making it better.

Edit: I can use the same trick to get onto the roof of the warehouse from its balcony.

Tsk, looks like more clip brushes are needed then.

I'm curious about the warehouse roof though - there's already a big clip brush there. I might have to put one above the balcony instead. Thanks!

I know of at least one guy who has tried to put the crane into his map already. The Powersurge map. The crane doesn't work, unfortunately. The model is still in there, though, and it looks hella cool against the sunset of the map's sky.

Just wanted to say this map is absolutely awesome. Just had a really fun match on this level. Great work!

10/10 for this.

We played this on the UK HL2.net server yesterday. It's good fun, some pretty good gameplay in there... IMO the areas that need the biggest attention are the rocket launcher tower (looks a bit HL1 really) and the water. I understand it's part of the theme, but it really breaks up the flow having a big mass of water that serves no real function apart from looking pretty... unless i'm missing some kind of super weapon there of course. Plus the water appears buggy on my video card: you can see anyone whos hiding under the water as clear as if they were on top of it.

Must be your video card, or maybe his water.... I know on my map dm_docks the only model you can see clear as day onderwater is the combine elite all other mp models are pretty much invisible if they go deap enough under the water.

I'm going to add a bit of detail to the tower, but not too much.

The water is there for the theme of the map - you can entirely avoid going in it if you wish. The idea is that you skirt along the edge of it. The option also exists for you to use it as a (slow) method of escape. One of my favourite moves is to leg it up the tower, grab the RPG and dive out of the window into the water.
Theoretically, you can sit and camp in the water, but it won't yield many kills at all unless you're very lucky.

If you can see people under the water, then that's a little advantage for you :)

Come to think of it, you killed me while I was in the water at least once!

I'm looking forward to the official/non-beta release of this map. :D

Just played the map for the first time. Congrats

The water appears to slow evrything down, do other people experience this?

there's definetly some kind of physics bug, probably to do with the water. All those in the server about 20 minutes ago will have observed my running jump across the other side of the map... I was walking around like I was underwater (I think I even got the water sounds), slowing down, but I got some weird gravity advantages at the same time. Trippy ^^

kupoartist thats because u picked up the secret "magic mushroom" special, it puts ur char. on drugs and fu.cks up your gameplay :D

:O dockyard was better ='[

...spose dockside would be a little more suitable but it is inclosed!

I forgot to change the name when I was uploading it.

Just a few things,
Did that only happen to me?

A ladder here might work out alright

I thought maybe that one of the vest could be a func_beakable and you could get a secret weapon?, in the vent

Another though maybe have it flat instead of goin up but not sure

The level was good...lets just hope the pics work

also on the top, the railings that help keep you on the pathway, arnt connected to anything :D

Picture 1: That seam has been fixed

Picture 2: Swim round. I refuse to have ladders. I put a set of steps in there at one point, but removed them because they just didn't work.

Picture 3: A secret weapon tends not to remain secret for long.

Picture 4: Another what?

The railings are connected to the floor :)
