new Mars Volta video

Can't download the video, but I managed to stream the audio, MAN that pwns. Sounds a bit Audioslave-esque in parts. I love it :D

Sorry.. if anything, Audioslave would sound like them... I'm fairly sure the Mars Volta was around for at least a year or two before Audioslave... and even if they weren't, At The Drive In was around kicking ass while Chris Cornell was still screwing around with the failure that became Soundgarden. :D :bounce:

EDIT: On a side note, don't mind my inflammatory remarks, I'm just a bit of a music snob ;)

Shame that a good song gets such a lame video.
This was my first time hearing anything off the new album, a bit of a disappointment, not very original sounding. Hell, if you can compare them to a radio band like Audioslave, it can't be

I liked the video it sorta kept me wondering about the messages, archetypes. Not just some ass shaking and diamond showing

Oh it's totally better than ass shaking and diamond showing, don't get me wrong

Not very original sounding? Aside from that Audioslave misconception (no effing way, btw...), who else does it sound like, aside from picking up where "Deloused" left off?

I didn't mean they sounded like Audioslave as a band, I was just saying that song did. It's a mere comparison

Shhhh Bad, your giving NZ a bad name! Audio slave = music for 'rebels' where as Mars volta = music for people with fully functioning musical taste bud... things. Although their new song aint quite as good as their old stuff its still bloody good.

You can't deny that it's an extremely radio friendly song. I can't think of one song off Deloused that could stand well on it's own (well, maybe one), maybe that's why there was no official single.

Hm... well, I guess I agree with the GENERAL idea of what you said... I'm not sure exactly what you meant by "stand well on it's own"... I think every song on that CD is amazing, but you need to listen to them ALL, not just one or another to really get it, if that's what you meant. While "The Widow" is a bit more radio friendly that anything off of "Deloused", it STILL doesn't strike me as anything tailored for the masses, if that's what you're getting at. Listening to it, it still feels like there's more I'm missing that I would get from listening to the whole CD.

EDIT: On a side note, I've found that if you take anyone with half a musical taste bud and force feed them "Deloused", they'll recognize it as awesome music. If I had a nickel for every time I've heard "HOLY SHIT, who is this????"........

Man, got this song stuck in my head. I love the way the chorus deteriorates so quickly.

The Widow is the only song on Frances The Mute that could be considered "radio-friendly" (and even then, it's only the first three minutes that could be considered that; the rest is just wierd). The other four are just as eccentric and mad as the ones off De-loused, even more so.

After listening to the CD again, there is one bit that sounds similar (middle of "Miranda, That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore"), but that's it I swear. :p
