It looks like that Valve are working on more than just new achievements for Team Fortress 2. a member from Steam's Official Forums, received a reply from Robin Walker saying that Valve are working on a new feature for medics, "that'll add a set of interesting choices".

We're working on a large new feature that'll add a set of interesting choices for Medics to make about their tactics, so in the future we expect the Medic role to broaden over time.

You can view the forum post here.

Worst case scenario he's referring to the achievements.

Interesting, I wonder if work on this new feature is why the medic achievements are taking so long to release.
Considering the Medic's low popularity but critically for team success I think it's good that they try to make him more interesting to play.

Hope they are going to uberpimp the syringe gun.

I always play as medic. Best role there is imo.

Even though Medic isn't really my favourite class, I've spent longest playing him.

I'm betting money (except that I'm not) on medics getting a poison fire with their syringe gun that reduces the amount of healing someone gets from an enemy medic. Or a poison that reduces healing that medics themselves can do.

Could be interesting - Medic right now is one of my favorite classes.

Also I agree with the poison syringe gun, seems like the most likely candidate.

I love the medic as it is, HL2.net game last night - the medic came into it's own league.

In TFC the medic could give health packs to enemies giving them an infection which slowly kills them, I guess something like that with the healing gun could be viable.

Actually I don't think it will be something related to the syringe gun, Robin Walker states that the new feature is going to bring more choices to medics, and making better the syringe gun won't really bring new choices...

I think it will be something related to the healing gun, as Hectic mentioned. Maybe the healing gun will be able to damage oponents the same way you heal teammates(although a little more slowly). It could also heal you while you do that(vampire style!).

Damaging players that way could also help fill the Ubercharge bar, and maybe using the ubercharge on an enemy could do a special something too...instant-kill!

I think I'm dreaming a bit too much here:D:D I actually like the medic as it is. Now it is a support class, I hope they don't add too much offensive power to them so that the medics forget about the healing.

I think the pyro is a little too fast... he can run on par with most other classes :S
I wonder what this new medic feature is...

Even as a proud Medic player, I'd rather that they work on new maps.

They are. Coding and mapping are two different things.

I'm very interested to see what they will come up with. I don't think it will be a feature that enables medics to damage the enemy though (like the poison idea), since I believe Valve would want the medic to be a support class and not an attack class.

My thoughts exactly. Any damage the healing gun would inflict would kill the medic as a class. To be honest, right now the medic seems fine. Actually, all of the classes seem fine. If there's anything I can really complain about is how long the spy's cloak takes to recharge.

I play medic a bit (or did) but infecting the other team would make it more fun XD

Perhaps a different way to use the ubercharge?

Honestly, I think the thing I'd want most with the medic is healing two people at one. Left mouse button, right mouse button anyone?

My long finger hurts now what middle finger too ? :D

I've been really enjoying the medic class lately. They're very potent.

mappers don't make new weapons or class features.
Wrong, there's only three people that work at Valve. Two work on actual products (this is why Episode one and two were developed in tandem) and the other works on updates. Folks at Valve just have a nasty habit of naming thier fingers and sticking that in the credits.

Why would people want the medic to have a better syringe gun or ability to attack with the healing gun?

The whole point of the medic is to help the team, I'd be cheesed off if it was attacking all the time.

People dislike playing the medic simply because you play the game by holding mouse1 for a long time and when you get to 100% healing charge and go uber you're rewarded by.... still having to hold down mouse 1 for a while. Not much of a reward on behalf of the medic. A change to that routine would break part of the monotony.

I enjoy playing medic myself though but would indeed welcome more variety.

I think Pyros are too strong at the moment, perhaps reduce their speed or health, or burn time - I always kill the pyro then burn to death 5 seconds later :(

Have you played TF2 beta? At beta pyro was too weak.

These are probably the people who stick to one heavy the whole round and follow him to thier death. Medic is all about staying on the safe side of the ever moving front line and healing everyone; I'm not some heavy's personal medic.

You have to spy-check if your healing-buddy is busy at shooting people on the opposite direction. Being a good medic isnt only about holding down +attack for 10 minutes.

I always get killed the second I say "I am charged" anyway :hmph:

Maybe they will add more support roles: choice to either boost speed a bit or instead of healing they boost the weapon's damage. Although, he won't be called a medic anymore.

Mmmm..I think the weapon's damage boost could be an engineer role or similar. I hope I'm not dreaming tooooo much. :E

I wonder what this new medic feature is...
So? The pyro's fairly average, in terms of health and his main weapon isn't some kind of decisive weapon and, as it doesn't deal instant death the way a rocket launcher does, the flamethrower leaves you sort of vulnerable. Why should the pyro's speed be less than that of other classes?

Have you played TF2 beta? At beta pyro was too weak.

Call me crazy, but I kind of miss having to whip out my shotgun and pump a burning enemy full of buckshot after a burst from the flamethrower. Feels so good.

I still try do it whenever I can.

Your middle finger isn't your longest finger? What the hell does your hand look like?!

Doesn't a heavy's job consist of holding down the left mouse button? And a scout of running, jumping and tapping the left mouse button?

Yea but at least you have to aim at your target! The medic doesn't have to even do that once they have a heal target :P

It must be a slow news day, the post hardly contains anything interesting or factual at all.

They should give us a toggle for the medigun so we don't have to hold down mouse1 for 20 minutes.
