I am just starting to round up people for this mod, while still accepting ideas (very openly), basically it is going to be a SWAT type modification, although, it may either take place in the future or in the present. There are many possibilities with both (more-so in the future, I would say). We can be found at #hl2swat on GameSurge. This is not the official IRC channel, but simply a place for discussion. We need a name, ideas, and the following positions are open:
Modeling/skinning
Mapping
Coding
Artwork (not open until we get everything situated)
-
We basically have the website situation under control. I am the project leader, while I can do all of this, I would rather have someone with much more experience than I have to handle these (ie: 1 or 2 for coding, 2-3 mapping, 2-3 modeling, and a few that can help out with artwork and website help.) So head on over to #hl2swat on GameSurge!

Swat type modification?

Could you tell me a bit more about it?

We'll be a little critical at HL2.net, but don't be offended. Most of us are trying to help.

Basically, what we need to see/know is whether or not your MOD is more worthwhile than any other MOD. Who knows, maybe it isn't, but would still be worth joining. Maybe it is the best thing out there and we just don't know it.

Am I going to have to get used to saying "oh no swat clone" now? :(

well basically, that's why I'm open to ideas. I can change anything about this in no time, I just want to make a fun but kickass mod. I was thinking maybe moreso in the future, but I'm not really sure... What really catches me is the HL2 engine and it's possibilities, I want to work with it.
The whole idea will probably be something very different from my, wide spectrum, original.

Hey, I wouldn't consider myself an expert mapper but I figure I'll try out anyway... you can look at my other thread for any other info. I could have some ideas that may help you out, maybe...

I have a sp mod story in the pipeline and it has a few points that you might find interesting:

- Missions
- Swat/secret-agent style levels, usually 1 or two agents but occassionally who team
- Set in the future
- Few if any new models or code required
- Great plot (connected to Half-life)

Does anybody have a spark for creativity anymore?

It's boring to be cliche.

though i have n't worked for any mod before, i have made loads of maps using hammer 3.4 for hl and cs.making multiplayer maps is more different and tougher than the single player map.hope ur mod have more multiplayer maps.

You can't talk about nice. You as bad as Sadam.

I have pritty much lost tollerance with all of this crap. You can tell pritty much straight away if a mod will make beta or not. Well, not straight away. But ye anyway... I pritty much have gotten anoyed with the "I have no clue what I am doing. wow lets make an SAS mod"

Lol, im sorry but you dont have a chance. To make a mod work a team leader needs to have actual skill at some kind of mod making. You cant just post a concept of a mod you wrote in 2 minutes, call yourself the leader and think people are going to come running to join the team. To start a mod you'd need a fully thought out plan of exactly how the mod will work and some kind of moding skill. Btw all the successful mods ive seen have been lead by someone with more than 2 years of experience.

But everyone starts out as a newbie at some point. Why, you probably had an idea for a ww2/cyberpunk sas trooper mod when you were younger..

Though, to be honest, I think you guys actually enjoy reading these threads and flaming the n00bs, otherwise you wouldn't read this forums, right?

And how the hell is anyone supposed to get experience without ever starting out? Isn't that the definition of "experience?"

I am getting extremely annoyed at the lack of constructive critism and abundance of flaming stupidity whenever someone wants some help making a mod. If you are trying to help someone out, then fine, but if you are just here to make fun of them and say "they have no chance" then shut the hell up and get a life. No one wants to hear you laugh at their face, and it really makes you look like a moron, too.

It isn't like they are stupid, and it isn't like they are untalented. So many people want to make mods because it is a fun and enjoyable thing, and it is also very difficult to join "professional ones" when you are relatively new. I do understand that there is a lack of originality, but maybe these people aren't shooting for originality, maybe they just want to make a mod. You don't have to laugh in these people's faces if their idea is cliché, you could just tell them that they need to think more on it.

So please, I try not to sound like I'm "flaming" but I'm sick and tired of hearing people say "u guys sujck, ur such n00bs" It is both obnoxious and useless to everyone.
