I've been looking for a new monitor for years. I'm currently using a 17" CRT, and I'm getting migraines all the time, and the Fullscreen aspect is terrible these days.

I'm about to order this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001380

The customer reviews are extremely positive and CNET Rated it excellent. Its $40 cheaper than last time I looked at it (2 weeks ago), and has free shipping.

What do you think?

So I'm guessing you couldn't find any 16:10?

Sad times we live in.

That's kind of a high price to pay for a 23" monitor IMO. I got my acer 23" monitor at best buy for $169 a few months ago. Although LED displays do have an awesome picture quality, the one I got was not LED.
On the surface it's $100, for what? But when you look at the specs, it's better in every way. And 22" (21.5") is smaller than what I'm looking for, I wasn't even considering it. I really wanted 24" 16:10 but it looks like I'm going to have to compromise.

Anyway, I really appreciate your advice.

I have been seriously considering the less expensive models but I really end up only saving $80-$100 and getting a lesser product for it.

Veg, I found only 2 or 3 (16:10 ) monitors (at around $300) but the reviews put me off. And the rest of them were $500-$5,500

What model do you have, bro?

Also, Raz, chime in when you get a chance. Which one did you get, again?

I have an AOC 22" LED LCD monitor, resolution of 1680x1050.

I love it. Its amazingly thin, comes with VGA and HDMI ports, and a built in webcam. I think I paid less than $200 for it around 8 months ago from MicroCenter.

If you really want a high quality display you are right, I would go for that one. I always kind of cheap out on these things though looking more at price than specs. Here is a 24" Asus for $189 (plus $10 rebate):

I ordered the one in the first post earlier. I am hopeful about this monitor. I don't think I'll be disappointed, except I'll probably wish it was 1" or 2" taller.

It's a shame 16:10 have to die because they don't have a better way of measuring monitors. Like, what in the ****. Hey I've got an idea. How about measure the height and width of the display area. ****ING MORON INDUSTRY.

EDIT: Incidentally, this monitor/TV calculator is pretty cool: http://www.tvcalculator.com/

Sorry man I didn't see the thread until now.

I got the ASUS VW266H.

So far I'm satisfied with it. I notice banding and stuff... tried calibrating it to remove it but haven't been entirely successful. In the end, most things I look at don't have gradients and thus it doesn't bother me. Regular images look fantastic. The monitor is insanely bright, so I had to turn it down. There is some light bleeding around the edges, but I've gotten used to it.

I didn't think I would, but I got used to an LCD monitor.

The size is freaking fantastic. That's what I love most about it. Coming from my 19" CRT(which may be smaller due to the way they measured them), this is freaking awesome.

The price is more expensive now than when I got it. I got it at 280.00.

It sucks that 16:10 are so hard to find these days. A veritable technological dodo... and going extinct for a very stupid reason.

EDIT: THough I don't know if I'm actually experiencing light bleeding. I don't see any solid white light. It's just on darker images, like black, I see a brighter glow around the edges. In realistic images, that's not evident.

Oh hey, that's the runner up - the other one I was looking at. (it's 279.99 after mail in rebate) The same price you paid, and the same price I paid for mine (actually $9.00 more because of shipping). Yeah, it's very big, and it's 16:10, but I decided to go with the Samsung.

I'm tempted to buy just about 15 different monitors. Eventually, I had to pick one. The thing should be at my doorstep any minute!! :)

The day after I ordered, I noticed they have a newer model, the Samsung PX2370. I like the XL2370 better - mostly because I got it on sale.

The PX2370's retail should normally be only $9.99 more and has some interesting features like a proximity sensor. It also has a thinner frame.

I think with the big monitor, I'll just have to push it far back away from me anyway to feel comfortable. The diagonal of my current monitor is like 16" FS, so I think 23" WS will be big enough for me. A big monitor or TV would be perfect if you were sitting back in a lazy boy recliner.
