howd they get 4.6ghz? 85c? wasnt there a problem with teh 3.8's heating up as is?

There is another reason I don't think Nvidia or ATI will be able to match the Cell's performance anytime soon. Last time around the PC rapidly caught up with and surpassed the PS2, I think it is one of Sony's aims this time to make that very difficult so, as such Cell has been designed in a highly aggressive manner.

ok i know, im sad enough to actualyl read it. but are they suggesting that he PS2 was ever more powerful than a PC?

and is this whole thing a joke?

Your right it wont be able to mach its performance anytime soon.
Anytime soon, as in a year.
Isn't this coming Late 2006?
A year from now would be.
Early 2006.

All those words and powerpoint slides don't amount to anything right now. Sony'll be making pie-in-the-sky claims on what the hardware can do until close to when the final specs are available outside the company.

Also consider that the PS3 isn't going to be released until Spring 2006, at the earliest, and that it's almost 100% surely still in the design and testing phase of development. A lot can change in that space of time in a design. Just look at Half-Life 2 as an example of that.

What graphic card will it have? And didn't MS say that Xbox2 will have 7+ ghz or something?

But what is the IPC of that processor?? cos just a high clock speed mean fudge all unless it has a half decent clock speed eg right now p4 @ 6 decent athlon xp @ 9 and athlon 64's have an ipc of 12

btw IPC means Instructions Per Clock

That picture of the power point presentation, is the least of its power... If you read the article on slashdot.org about the cell processor, even if it was at 1ghz... It would still kick ass.

hmm very interesting..so is there any news on the xbox's processor? and are these 2 going to be released around the same time

Xbox's will probably be another Intel most likely, so don't expect anything to special. Sony also has Nvidia's graphics for their box, Xbox had Nvidia's before, and Gamecube at Ati's... As far as sheer power I don't see how the Xbox"2" is going to compete with the ps3.

People, please remember that mhz don't mean a thing anymore.
Tell that to the rest of the world.

Mhz/Ghz is just a marketing tool now'n days.
