New Oblivion videos (360)

well its not like they had a choice. No one in their right mind would release it in that state.

But it looks fekken awesome, rawrrrrr i cant wait!

I loved Morrowind, just walking around taking your sweet time, killing a monster or two, finding a dungeon or two, and hey, while I'm at it, why not just go into town and steal everything there is to steal from the black smith.

He said they have been doing a ton of work making the game faster so thats what the draw-in issue was all about

Also said they reduced loading times by 400%!

He said most of the 1500 NPC's will look different unless they are twins or something.

He said you can play it forever. I just hope there is a really tough difficulty level so you can still have challenging fights when you are really experienced.

I will definately be in The Dark Brotherhood. killing innocent victims is what video games are all about!

Man have you forgotten one of gamings greatest moments?
It ain't about killing innocent civilians, it's about being a half-eaten pizza being haunted by ghosts!(Pac-Man)

I'm not that impressed, they said in a Q&A that recently that Oblivion had Full Screen Soft Shadows being cast from every object, I didn't see that in the city, that could mean 2 things.
1. They just haven't implemented it yet
or
2. The XB360 doesn't handle that?:O

Oh well, hopefully the full vers will have that, I really want to be able to stand in a city and watch the shadows move along with the passage of time.:)

Also, didn't they previously say that there would be no loading times when looking going into buildings?
I know for sure they said you would be able to look out the window from a building and see what's going on outside atleast..
I was sorta hoping for no loading times when going into a "apartment", "store" or whatever.

They did say it's several weeks old(the build) but still..

It won't be done for a few months right? They aren't finished at all. There is still alot of major work to be done

Have they set an official release date yet?

If the 360 can't handle it there's no way my x800xtpe will. This is one of the reasons i'm getting a 360 - to play Oblivion in all it's glory at a decent frame rate.

Same here Warbie, seeing as I'm not buying a new comp uintil late 2k6/early 2k7.
Mmm Oblivion..

Wow, i've never played any of the elder scrolls games, but this looks incredible. /picks jaw up from floor

I think the shadows may have not been in because they could either A: have caused bad frame rates because they werent optimized enough or B: Had some other bug that would have ruined the demonstration. If the XB360 cant handle the shadows I will eat my monitor... I am 98% sure it can.

There is still loading for indoor areas. So every home or cave will have a load screen. There wont be any loading for outdoor areas though. But some of the big cities (i think there is 9 of them) are interior cells because they are so big. That means you will have to load when you go through the gates.

On the list of important features to get right - soft shadows falls way down near the bottom.

The loading screens for interiors like shops are like 8 seconds. thats faster than morrowind and they have alot more inside to load in this game

Yeah, I would much rather see a steady high framerate than soft shadows that change with the time of day or whatever. If they can implement that too, though, that would be nice.

The videos do look wonderful but for the unsteady fps. Thank goodness they are taking the time to further optimize--too many games have been released like this build or worse and it has ruined the potential of those would-be classics.

Indeed, but I like it when developers stick to their statements.:p
Hopefully Bethesda do, and they just haven't implemented it yet.:)
I'm a huge Elder Scrolls fan so couldn't care less about graphics, hell, I play Daggerfall even to this day(Pwns Morrowind imo..;))
*Sniffs*It's so beautiful, Daggerfall that is..
Albeit it IS a buggy pos!!>_<

Looks great, I just wish they could have kept people more informed as to the games development.. rather than say its going to be a X-box 360 release title or Holidays 2005 at latest, and then they announce 2 weeks prior that it's delayed 6 months. Obviously they knew before this that it needed months more of work...

I bought the PC that you see in the specs below, specifically for Oblivion, under the impression it would be released semi soon, and thus that a fairly fast PC would run it well. If I had waited, I'd be much better off, let's just leave it at that.

Here's to developers keeping their fans updated. :farmer:

This game looks great, but I hope they mean it when they say they've made the combat better. On Morrowind it sucked, it felt as if you were just waving your weapon at the enemy, not actually hitting them.

the game looks like fun :)

Im not a big fan of dungeons though...i get scared but i hope i'll enjoy them and play through them easily enough or just hang around the towns causing mischief.

I cant wait til its all polished and done. yippeee!

ooo i know what you are saying! my first dungeon game, "dungeon master" for atari ST .. it didnt have tons of sound effects, but it had loud, clear, samples of monsters and other appropriate sound effects.

Well i was about 12 i guess and was playing it and was surprized from behind (FPS RPG) and killed swiftly..I didnt see it coming! I must have had the volume up very loud and the monster made a convincing "i will kill you becuase im a monster" RAAWRRRR sound effect and started clubbing the shit out of me it scared the ****ing shit out of me, i couldn't gather myself to play it again for like 4 weeks. I ran in my sisters room all creeped out and calmed down.

it ended up being my favorite game ever made to this day I still play this game sometimes on an emulator (its 18 years old)

Anyway dungeon games don't scare me anymore but they do put me on the edge of my seat, and keep me alert! I love it!
