ok so im making new pc from scratch for the first time (yah im a dumb n00b).....

im wondering after i put everything together (yah i know how), when i turn it on do i just have to pop in my win2000pro cd and it'll install? or do i need some kinda boot/system disk? (Ofcourse after installing cd-rom and setting it as primary)

Power it up, configure BIOS. Check temps make sure everythings looking good. Pop in disk, it boots from the disk. If your using a SATA HDD, press F6 when prompted and install the SATA drivers on the floppy given to you with your mobo, otherwise installation wont recognize the HDD. If its IDE just go along wtih what it says.

cool thanks. but what disk do you mean? will this disk come with my mobo (abit is7).. or do i make one w/ this pc.

Only if your getting a serial ATA hard drive with the new comp do you have to worry. So if you are, your mobo should come with a floppy that has the serial ATA drivers on it. So install those if you are getting one.

If not, disregard this, pop in the windows disk and just install.

booting from disks scares me, primarily because i dont know how to do it.

Don't worry hyenolie, like Sgt.Igeneri said, either your mobo or your hard drive will even come with the required software. And hopefully an instruction manual :cheese:
