New review: 94%

damn it, go away Homer! *hurls doughnut far away*

:p

It IS just CS, but using the Source engine. It's uber adictive and will have a huge following (myself included) but at the end of the day it IS just CS on a new engine. It's nothing new, hence the score.

CS:S doesn't deserve close to 88%. Good to hear HL2 got a good score though. Why the hell does Valve insist on giving print publications priority over internet publications? I want to see some of the reviews for myself (legally).

They are targetting the more casual crowd. Promoting HL2 over the internet is preaching to the converted.

you could argue that CS:S deserves an 88%. CS itself is a great game, and keeping gameplay is a plus. Also, I'm not sure how easy it could have been to have a game look that good, support that many players, and have a more advanced physics system than any other online shooter (even if the CS:S physics is mostly superficial)... while maintaining a stable netcode that performs so well.

Where does this rate compared to others ala Doom 3 and Far Cry?

Excellent! I wonder what games rated higher than HL2 for those guys then? Because surely some other game got higher than 94% right? Or did HL2 "raise the bar" for this magazine too?

YES, there was a game rated higher, it was the EA Soccer Manager 2005 - which received 95%

Others for comparison:
Call of duty 87%
UT 2004 92%
