Okay, just ordered my new Dell PC. The specs are:

Pentium 3Ghz
512mbs RAM
Geforce 6800 256 mbs

So, will I be able to run upcoming games like Quake IV and Oblivion on full, or near-full detail?.

With that I;d say about near-full, but only becuase it might be needed another 512 RAM. Other than that you should be ready to go.

Just curious, how much was that?

About $1450. Meh, just hope it runs hl2 in full detail!.

WAAAAY overpriced.
No, not "WAAAAY" overpriced at all, you just have that elitist "I build my own" attitude and think anything else is vastly inferior.

Yeah. Pentiums tend to be more expensive, but (IMHO) are more bussiness oriented.

I think he could've gotten another 512 of ram for what he paid though. Depends on what kinda ram he got though. Maybe it's OCZ VX's or Mushkin winbond 5's. Doubt it though ;)

CPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116200 - $175

About $30 for a keyboard and mouse
Case is about $40
Speakers are about $50
Monitor is atleast $200
That comes out to about $1,050

But I got some really cheap things on this, and he probably has more quality products, and some things I left out. Oh and the CPU is probably a 100 off, IDK pentiums too well.

Wowzers and that's American, I'm not a big fan of Dells but you coulda easily got a better PC if you built it yourself...it isn't that hard really but decent PC, typical dell, more RAM might be needed as others have stated if you want to run HL2 and other good games nice and smooth.

Hmm, I imagine this guy is pretty excited about his new pc and you people are making him feel worse by configuring home-built systems for alot less. There is no point really, he has bought it now.

It'l run hl2 very well, dont listen to anyone who says otherwise- that game will blow you away man. And something to maybe make you feel better, i selected my own parts to be built, and had so many problems it wasn't funny (finally sorted after 7 months), your Dell will sure as hell not do that!

I'm just sad I don't have that much money to spend on a PC ;( *shakes fist at his car* ....*takes that back and hugs his car*

Could decrease the price even more by going with a 280 dollar x800xl, then you can stick in a huge lcd monitor.

Heh, you don't need to tell me that, I beat the game twice. 'N Besides I only plan to have this comp for about a year or so, and either give it a serious upgrade or get another one, this is just a "placeholder" for the moment. btw, I know self-built PCs are cheaper, but I'm no computer whiz (heck, installing my vid card took me.....an unnecessary amount of time to make myself sound less stupid).

Thing to watch out with a Dell is that the motherboard is (well they were dunno if they are now) none standard. A normal PSU wont work, even though the connections are the same.

Other than that, good luck with your new Puter, it should be fine.

Though I'd of gone for AMD and ATI :)
