New spore hands on

Great preview. Too bad the release looks to be further away than ever though:

it is clearly going to take Maxis at least a year to stitch all the elements into a coherent whole.

It may not be there in the same form in the final game, but you could also hit a menu item and send your creature to Maxis’ 3D printer, which automatically creates a model of it. It is likely that a model-making service (which will probably require payment) will be available when the game appears.

omfg! Now thats a good marketing idea.

I can only HOPE that it comes out past the fall season. There's Twilight Princess, FFXII, and all the Wii stuff coming out. Still, it's at the very top of my anticipated games lists, so yeah, it'll be a sure-fire buy for me.

lol, I'm hoping for fall of '07...

there was also an interview in discover magazine which said basically the same thing.

yeah, I was thinking that too... they could make millions off that if they could make fully painted models of your characters and sell 'em for like $30 or so including shipping

Maybe they can make a Robin Williams special edition. The monster that made Spore crash.

And I would love to have my own model. Great idea. I'd pay for it.

here's a question for you spore pros...

think the game will allow me to create a creature, NOT evolve its intelligence... but have it be developed exclusively for efficient killing, attacking the civilized "intelligent" creatures?

Like... I want the equivilent of a species that is like those man hunting lions... attacking and preying on the intelligent species until they wipe me out. Hehe.

You can go for the predator / carnivore type. And you can focus on big muscles in stead of big brains iirc.

See that's what I want to do sometimes... not have my creature reach the tribal phase... I just want them to evolve to TERRORIZE the so called intelligents, individually or in packs... as a source of food.

In the preview Will Wright points to the fact that the first evolution cycle in the game (spore -> tribal -> sim -> civ -> UFO) is just the tutorial. After you get acess to the universe you can experiment with creatures you encounter on other planets. They can be just in the spore fase, but they might already have reached the civ fase.

Will Wright said a couple of months ago: "the game is the tutorial to the sandbox." Pretty cool.

Like the Zerg you mean?

Except that the zerg have more intelligence than i'm envisioning... i'm envisioning basically creatures without a unity... but that hunt and prey on the smarter species, and dumber species... Just basically animals that are good at killing despite the technological advantage of the other species.

Yes the Zerg are extremely stupid. Simply you have an Overmind\Kerrigan who talks to Cerebrates who talk to Overlords who talk to the troops.

It is a chain of command system and well... err the Zerg owned everybody at the end of Brood War.
