New STALKER screens :|

this game looks soooo fun.

One thing im confused with is at first the game was called STALKER: Oblivion lost, and now its called STALKER:Shadow of Chernobyl??

Yup, the name changed =)

EDIT: Am I the only one who finds the graphics...well...sucky?

What is the obession with guns taking up 1/4 to 1/2 of the god damn screen? Does it excite anyone? To me it looks annoying as hell.

Calhoun the game changed name a while ago to shadow of chernobyl presumably to cash in on the name.

IMO, this game ain't really about graphics. There are NO scripted events. All the enemy AI and stuff, everything is in real time. That's just so damn awesome, like a living breathing world.

Gameplay > Graphics

Yep, but that whole breathign living world is gonna be a bitch on the good old RAM.

Ya thats one thing that bothered me about this game.

Man, that guy's bony old wrists are annoying. And the big weapons are sorta distracting.

But if Stalker can pull off this world without scripted events, it should all be worth it, right?

... one shows that the game will support that zoomy thingy that Call of Duty uses, where you look down the sight of guns.

'zoomy'? :) 'Iron sights' view has been around for a while now -- the 3 three year old Operation Flashpoint had it -- and is pretty much a requirement for any game pretending to the realistic end of the spectrum.

Not too much wrong with those screenshots: environments look suitably murky and misty, models look good. The facial and movement animations (as seen in the videoclips) don't appear to be up to HL2's standard though.

Hence the average-ish graphics. They have to rely on textures more than bump mapping.
IMO though, textures of this quality beat pure bumpmapping in the face. Everything looks so much more grungey and real.
That's why I like HL2's combo of both, with neither being too prominent.

wow, nice.... I really like the setting of this game

Exactly, what's with people's "bump-mapping" obsessions anyway?

Seriously, I love high quality textures instead - that give a nice gritty realistic feel to things more (like a wall in real-life won't be bumped to death) - the reason why I'm liking games such as HL2 and STALKER everyday. They make use of such features where it's neccesary - not overdo it like in Far cry. Then some idiot says that "why is there not any bump mapping on the sandy floor / road?" - because it's not in real life damnit!

Oh and BTW - what's up with the big guns? - they're literally taking up 1/2 the screen.

I lost interest in Stalker a while back :|

But I gotta say the game is looking better every time I see new media.

Play in third person mode if you dont like the guns taking up the whole screen, and im sure someone will make a mod that makes them invisible like in Ghost Recon

As I stated last week, Stalker and HL2 have many similarities. Both games going to rok the gaming world once again before the almighty QUAKE4 come :naughty: .

Those screenshots look a bit bleh imo. I don't really like the overall look of the game. The graphics in hl2 look alot better imo.

hmmm I dont understand why every game has to be compared to HL2... sure the graphics are better but HL2 is head and shoulders above most games plus it cost 40 million to make ...most game developers cant compete with that. Take Stalker for what it is and not for what it could be had valve made it

Please tell me Stalker hasn't introduced iron sights :/

That would be just terrible.

plus, we are sure a company like valve knows about gameplay.... not sure with STALKER.. it looks nice, but will it be fun to play??

thats what I am worried about, is this whole living world crap gonna be fun. You just cant tell, and in some of the video the gameplay looks bland. There is no way Im gonna buy this first day out, Im gonna have to wait for reviews and gamers opinions.

it didnt always have iron sights but it was the most fan requested feature (after co-op of course) and it was implemented shortly after they announced there would be no co-op ..coincidence?

Probably not :/

Bloody fans - look what you've done!!

blame the russians ...those damn commies always get what they want: communism, cool fur hats, radiation

I really like the look of this game, and the fact that it has coop and IS but something just bugs me about it, I have a feeling that it will be buggy like hell on release and won't get the attention that it requires.

Meh, the game doesn't look at that good, I like the lighting tho.

I dont think it's all that easy. I remember a developer saying something to the effect that it was too complicated in the time they had
