Hi peeps,

According to www.bluesnews.com, a new version of Steam has been released:

"A Steam update has just been released. The next time you restart Steam, the update will take effect. Here are the details on what is included:

Added support for "trickle update", which will allow updates to games to be delivered over time before they are activated.
Optimizations in Steam targeted at reducing CPU and memory load on some systems.
Progress dialog always shows now during startup.
Fixed handling of cache fingerprint mismatch on reconnect
Fixed case which would cause the preloader ignoring errors to send extra messages to the Steam servers.
Fixed bug in Steam that would cause cache to be validated too often when Steam started. This would cause hard drive thrashing.
Fixed a potential lockup case and access violation case in Steam."

Thought it would be nice to let folks know

:)

Well, kinda good, kinda not:

It says "Launching Steam" now, which is good for some people I suppose, I never had any problem in knowing that it was launching by the few seconds of nothingness after double clicking the icon.

On to the optimisations part:
Old Steam "Mem Usage - 11,000 k" (Upto, but no more than 16,000 k)
New Steam "Mem Usage - 26,000 k" and increasing as I type (30,000 k as I click to submit reply)

But this could be because it's updating 3 games as part of the "trickle update" (I guess). Suprisingly at very good rates as a lot of people will be updating will they no? At this mo, updating CS and DMC, both going over 50kbs each, when I normally don't get more than 60kbs for a normal download.

Had to restart Steam twice as it did sod all after I closed the main menu, seems to be working now.
