"According to the study, the loss of ocean biodiversity is accelerating, and 29 percent of the seafood species humans consume have already crashed. If the long-term trend continues, in 30 years there will be little or no seafood available for sustainable harvest.

The increasing pace of diversity loss thus imperils the "ecosystems services" that many human populations depend on for survival, the study says.

The research also found that biodiversity loss is tightly linked to declining water quality, harmful algal blooms, ocean dead zones, fish kills, and coastal flooding. (Related: 'Dead Zone' off Oregon Coast Is Growing, Study Says" [August 4, 2006].)"

There will be fish by 2048. Just maybe not the types we rob from the ocean.

I see this as a good thing, think about it.

Increased Global warming=massive flooding

No fish=less ocean volume

So when the glaciers melt, the sea level will stay exactly the same thus balancing everything out. Everyone wins( except fish and poor people)

Everything is going to be all right!

No, I don't think you guys are realizing the more disasterous implications, which go far beyond no fish on a dinnerplate. This would be incredibly devestating to all manner of marine life. We are talking about the collapse of enitre ecosystems.

lol.

I doubt fish have that great of an effect on ocean volume.

Well,I thimk we should have more fish farms imo. (seriously)

I think maybe we need to pull our collective human dick out of the Earth's **** and stop raping her for ten minutes so she doesn't ****ing die.

Yep... we're killing our potential to survive.

**** our potential, we're messing it up for nature too. Just because we're some mutant offspring with free will doesn't mean we can freely annihilate that which we came from.

I know that man... but mankind seems to have the tendency to not care about anything other than themselves. Well that's why I say we're destroying our ability to survive on this planet.

I hope we come to our senses before it's too late.

I'm not very optimistic about the chances of that happening, though.

I'm crossing my fingers at the possibility that something big will happen in 2012 (yeah right) or really anytime in the next few score years, some kind of global, large-scale positive paradigm shift.

I'm just hoping for the apocalypse, or at least a global extinction of mankind to give the Earth the chance for a fresh start.

I'm all for humanity's extinction after I die and my kids die. I'll be gone after that... what the hell do I care?

lol, that's the exact attitude that got us here in the first place.

No... the attitude was to pollute because they wouldn't have to worry about it after their death. I am against polluting. I am pro huminity extinction, but only after my most loved ones are gone.

Both have the same greedy outcome, "I hope/don't care what happens when I'm gone as long as I'M OK"

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

Sacrifices must be made. And if you won;t go willingly, you will be taken by force.

Yeah... and? I don't really care what happens to humanity after I'm gone, and my immediate family is gone(and future kids, and possibly their kids if they want any).

If the earth and all its other creatures weren't so threatened by us... I wouldn't feel this way. But that's not the case, now is it?

NOTE: i'm not talking about the earth as a hunk of rock.

Humans = parasites.

Fixed. :O

Think about it for a second....we are actually parasitic organisms, moving to an area, raping it of all natural resources and then moving on to another.

You think we're directly affecting earths creatures? 99.9 percent of the species that have walked this earth have gone extinct, the majority of which happened long before man came around. I hate to say it and it shouldn't be encouraged but these species are going to go extinct one way or another. That's how evolution works.

As for the earth, there are much more constructive ways to watch out for her then to end all conscious life.

EDIT: 1700 posts yay! 1700 more then i thought i would get when i signed up here:)

Well i hope it doesnt effect the algies or however you spell it because it produce more oxygen then the entire nature on Land, without it we will die.

So you're saying that just because some of the species might be wiped out from normal causes EVENTUALLY... that we should continue on with expediting the process?

That's a lousy thought.

No, I'm saying that ALL SPECIES WILL be wiped out from normal causes and as of now, we are the normal causes. The only difference is that we can actually do something about it.

So you're saying that we should wipe out the only creature on this planet that can really appreciate and reflect on the beauty that life has to offer because a natural process is being carried out.

That's a lousy thought.

Toxic waste being dumped directly into oceans in far higher concentrations than the earth could ever produce in any one area and devastating the environments around them. All natural. Normal.

Who would of thought.

It's not necessarily just all humans that are doing f***ing sh17 to the planet, its the ones in charge that refuse to do anything and just sputter words like "WE MUST ACT NOW!" ok....who's acting?

Toxic waste being dumped directly into oceans in far higher concentrations than the earth could ever produce in any one area and devastating the environments around them.

No, im talking about one species dieing as a result of another. It's been happening for billions of years regardless of it's methods.

All natural. Normal.

I know, thanks for agreeing with me.

I'm all for humanity's extinction after I die and my kids die. I'll be gone after that... what the hell do I care?
Well...it's obvious that the generations before you cared...

Of course they have, because they couldn't adapt to the other natural creatures. But that's entirely different than humanity's influence. Being unable to adapt to rapidly increasing pollution of various things that are toxic to just about all life... should not be any reason for an animal to go extinct. Nothing can adapt and evolve to be shielded against the harmful things we do with our technology. We're even vulnerable to our own technologies and pollution.

What's to be said about that?

Well...it's obvious that the generations before you cared...

Actually humanity has been having a negative effect on nature since paleolithic times. It's just that our ability then wasn't as great. Over time, as we pass into each new millenium, our ability for increased production grows and grows. The effects of it are like a tidal wave. The waves may not be very high enough to do all sorts of devastating damage, but the gigantic mass that builds behind them can completely obliterate all in its path.

this, among other world-ending predictions, is the very reason I eat high-cholesterol and sugary foods, so that I will die happy at the age of 40 before all of the horrors we are causing will come around.
