Marijuana is not a “gateway” drug that predicts or eventually leads to substance abuse, suggests a 12-year University of Pittsburgh study. Moreover, the study’s findings call into question the long-held belief that has shaped prevention efforts and governmental policy for six decades and caused many a parent to panic upon discovering a bag of pot in their child’s bedroom.

this seems to always come up in threads about weed at hl2.net. so can we put it to rest now?

Well done my Pittsburgh brethren. So where's the Weed subforum?

Anyway, no shit. This was always nothing more than a weak justification to oppose it's legality in the face of overwhelming reasons to the contrary. In any case, if it was a gateway drug, it'd be because it was being dealt illegally by people who have access to other drugs and an interest in pushing them. Legalization isn't going to worsen that situation.

Stern hasn't changed his calendar in fifteen years. He actually thought 2006 was the future.
