i've made two new paintings.. kinda shitty, it's been over 6 months since i painted the last time. but i dunno, it's so damn fun, i think maybe I'll keep it up. just not sure how i would balance painting and music making.

Did you paint thoose nofx? Shes hot.
And yours are nice too CH.

thanks for the comments guys, yeah nofx i really need to read through that page by prometheus (who's a swede by the way!). man, it's great to be painting again.

Big difference there with the different brush sizes. Looking good.

something for conceptart.org:

pretty good take time to smooth out the brush strokes though you seem to be usually a really metallicish swatch but its all good :)

edit: whats ur name on conceptart i really like the new forum revamp they had in the user cp

i'm crazyharij on there too, hang around alot in the DSG's.

Here are two new speedpaintings from references, really need to study more:

Wow, nice. Although on some (notably alien and gun-holding-man) the posing isn't as good as your stuff usually is (eg that Combine Behemoth you did ages ago).

Man, I should really actually draw from references.

EDIT:

Wow, the way this guy draws people is really similar to mine, only far better. :p

usual? you mean when i actually drew regularly 6 months ago.. yeah i definitely have tons and tons and tons of work to do on anatomy, proportion and the human body in general.

i was at the library today and drew off some people. here in sweden it's considered a crime to look at other people so ppl's reactions were kinda funny, but it was a nice experience anyway. seriously think drawing from life is vital if you dont want to ruin your sense of depth.

yeah its really fun to paint urban stuff.. i just love anything industrial.
the aphex logo is because the pages are from a sketchbook i made in print class @ school, it's hundred pages and i added the aphex logo on them because i thought it was cool. the front page has a high res RDJ album cover.

AL: i am most intrigued by your proposition.

some star wars-ish doodle i just did:

In your sketches work on making those solid crisp lines, some seem too sketchy.

Woah, those are great Harij- I lap sci-fi art up as it is, but that's good sci-fi: brilliant lighting!

Seeing your work makes me welcome even more your tips! :) I have a lot to learn!

new quick piece for concept art.orgs daily sketch group..
dont even mention the fact that its scribbly and undetailed as hell.. i can't really be arsed on work on it anymore, just wanted to get the color relationships somewhat right..
netherworlds.jpg

Twisty. :O

I dunno though, it seems a bit drab. Like Quake.

here's a pretty quick doodle, with weirdass perspective:
dinojournalist.jpg

the topic is "a journalist communicates with a dinosaur on the top of a building" from this thing called 3CH, a program that comes up with a random topic for speedpaints when you can't think of anything. it was made by a bunch of concept artists who work at ubi soft that also hang out at conceptart.org.. an online version of it is here:
http://viaggg.free.fr/3CH/3ch_web.php

it's ****ing great! some topics are ridiculously funny, but he main point is it's very good for learning and variation since you're painting other stuff than robots, samurais and robosamurais.

oh, and as a bonus, here's another girl sketch: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v730/CrazyHarij/sketch03.jpg

been studying anatomy and proportions like a bitch.. mainly general figure proportions and arm muscles.. nothing worth uploading really, but i just did this doodle based on what ive learnt

bmf.jpg

face, torso and feet are crap tho

been drawing alot, cant be arsed to scan all my anatomy studies.. here are some speedpaints ive done.

Hi CrazyHarij,

You seem to be much more of a painter than a drawer. I love your paintings, you seem to have a very strong grasp of color and such, but when you draw your line quality leaves something to be desired.

If I were you, in addition to your digital paintings, I would do pencil line drawings on the side. No shading allowed! This is a very important and vastly different skill. One of my teachers once told me that when studying anatomy, you should never shade your drawings for a few reasons: you get a clearer picture, you don't waste time, and you practice your lines at the same time.

Other than that, really great stuff. GJ ;).

Thanks for replying notatool! :)

i do lots of drawing all day, i just don't post it here. i know the importance of drawing depth without shading etc. the reason my lines look crummy is because i draw quite small and don't bother too much with detail and cleaning up. I do all of these on less than half an A4.

i shade my drawings very quickly, just to establish a sense of them being in light. i don't like just drawing the lines only because it feels less like the illusion of a real object.

i don't see why I'm more of a painter than a drawer.. i've been drawing for roughly 5 years and began painting only recently, with lots of breaks. i'm not hesitant to admitting all the flaws of my drawing but I don't see what's so bad about my line quality. it takes time to define your style and i focus on just learning now. When I know my anatomy properly I'll probably spend more time on refined drawings and linework.
You need to look at the context of things.

even though you're probably right, i've always been a very scribbly drawer. i'll try to work larger, got an A3 drawing book i just got, just need to do more studies.

After years of art classes I've learned that some people are inherently good painters, while others are good drawers, and it's reflected in their style. THis does NOT mean your drawings are bad, the are quite good! It means the way you do art is more adapted to a color medium. Keep in mind, this is purely my opinion.

It's just that even in your pencil drawings, I see "brushstrokes". I see a style more adapted to painting than pencil. Whether you have done one or another for a longer time is irrelevant really.

Cheers :)

Ah, okay.. Maybe that's true, because I've grown very fond of painting ever since i got into it..
But i still like both equally..

Why I'm so inconfident of drawing nowadays is because I've been taking a 6month break from art all together (how many times do I have to say this). Because I've been focusing more on painting now I think in aspects of value rather than just lines nowadays. I had tons of problems with painting before when I was new to it because I thought of everything in lines.

It really feels like a huge difference, and i think it's more of a temporary issue.

I feel that I want to "render" whenever I do a pencil drawing, not just do a drawing with lines.
I really want to get good at both drawing and painting, but painting is abit cooler. It's just the whole color thing, the ability to create lifelike windows of other worlds.. Still, badass drawings are just as cool. They are two different mediums.

The kind of drawing style I'd kill to be able to do would be stuff like this:
www.gregthings.com

I'm more of a sketcher than a linedrawer. It's a problem I'm working on, but I don't think that automatically makes me a "painter".
