New Tech Creates Virtual "Forcefield" Around Armor

ok very nice. Still its not the real thing which is the invisible shield that we see in scifi-movies.

It shoots rockets?!?

Thats not a virtual forcefeild.
You can hardly divert life support to rockets can you!

I'm pretty sure the chinese or russians have something kind of like this already working.

The tank's onboard computer recognizes an AT missiles laser and warns the crew of its direction.

Then the machine gunner faces his machine gun at the missile, and as it gets fired, a little box on the gun (on its own) fires a small explosive projectile at the round, KABOOM!

But they lead you in with everyone picturing Picard's head sticking out of a tank in Iraq yelling SHIELDS UP NUMBER ONE!

lol that made me giggle.

Seriously though lockheed have been developing proper energy shields.

But it is also apparent that Podkletnov’s work could be engineered into a radical new weapon. The GRASP paper focuses on Podkletnov’s claims that his high-power experiments, using a device called an ‘impulse gravity generator’, are capable of producing a beam of ‘gravity-like’ energy that can exert an instantaneous force of 1,000g on any object — enough, in principle, to vaporise it, especially if the object is moving at high speed.

Podkletnov maintains that a laboratory installation in Russia has already demonstrated the 4in (10cm) wide beam’s ability to repel objects a kilometre away and that it exhibits negligible power loss at distances of up to 200km. Such a device, observers say, could be adapted for use as an anti-satellite weapon or a ballistic missile shield. Podkletnov declared that any object placed above his rapidly spinning superconducting apparatus lost up to 2% of its weight.

The device is essentially a highly charged fast spinning super conductor, and lockheeds scientists can't quite explain it from what ive read.. but it seems to create it's own gravitational field that doesn't like any mass that gets close to it.

The only problem is that there is no proof that it works and nobody can replicate it except for one Russian scientist that will only do the experiments in secret and in Russia and then release ridiculous claims like being able to send a 1000g gravity beam over a km away.

Well true or not, Nick Cook takes his work very seriously and has released some excellent books, of course skepticism is good.. its just there are alot of confirmations that spinning super conductors have some weird effects.

its an anti missle system is all.

the one the chinese have is different. What the chinese have is a device that detects when they are being targeted by a targeting system. This device then finds the enemy's targeting system and fires a high powered laser to ruin it and if the targeting sytem has someone looking through some optics at the time, to blind him.

Interesting, soon we'll have tanks with defense lasers and repair drones like in C&C Generals. I for one don't think an energy shield will ever be made because it could easily be disabled by an emp weapon.

But so could everything else on a tank.

You know that ESA tried and succseded with simmilar experiments using spinning superconductors, i already posted thtat a mont ago!

virtual forcefield

not literal forcefield.

Arena. But it sucks apparently.

Twould be awsome to see this go into full development, i`d like to go in an anti gravity jet :D

he likened it to a forcefield because it has the same effect, hence virtual forcefield. its not a force field but its a almost the same thing
