Something tells me though that the sci-fi stuff in 1500 and 2500 will be montagues at the end and the beginning, leaving almost all of the movie to be a stupid love story between the guy and the dying girl in 2000

I don't know about that. Aronofsky's been working on this for quite a while. He wouldn't have used all that time just to focus on the love story in 2000.
