Hi i have just managed to make rooms and areas in hammer.
I was wondering how you manage to place doors, sinks, toilets and other items.
Also where do you save your map if you want to run it in hl2 ? Should i change any properties now that the full sdk has been released ? the properties i am using now seem to be configured for cs:s and i dont want that.

Please dont castrate me :upstare:

well, I don't know about the first ones since I heard prefabs are taken out and replaced, and I haven't had time to play yet. To test them in hl2, put the compiled maps in the hl2 map folder. You need to select Half-Life 2 before you open hammer (theres a small dropdown menu at the bottom of the SDK window).

Doors are just brushes with special entity properties. Go to www.snarkpit.com or www.cariad.co.za/twhl for good mapping tutorials.

to make doors and windows and such i use the carve tool (or just build around it if i can)...sinks and toilets would be entities-prop_static (don't react to physics) or prop_multiplayer (physic based)...from what i gather if you place a model in your map dont let it touch brushes, they will not apear after compiling...i save my maps under the game folder (i.e. cs maps under counterstrikesource/cstrike/maps...)...the update let you configure for HL2 just select the game when you start up the sdk, if you placed the file correctly in your folders then you can map for HLDM or HL2

edit: to place the model for the prop entity you need to select the world model under the entity options...
