New to Source Mapping, have question...

Ok I know you all played some of the early maps in the beta that people tryed to port. when you played them all of the playermodles looked black and the lighting didnt look right. I know you all know what i am talking about. Well Im trying to map now and I am having that problem.....how do I make it so that the lighting looks good and normal, and not all black and crappy?
 
what does it do, i added it and although I dont have anything to compare the light to, it still looks bad. When I shoot the ground and chunks fly up, the chunks are all black. Do I need to set specific values to cubemap and what does it do? I put a "light_enviroment" but thats not working......hmmmmmm
 
ericms, what are you, some kind of forum god??? I swear, you always help with my questions. Man you are great. So your saying that I just run the map and type buildcubemaps in the console and then everything is gravey?????
