New US Space Policy

The deal is done. The US House of Representatives has accepted legislation drafted in the Senate to fund Nasa for the new financial year to the tune of $19bn. All that is required now is a signature from President Barack Obama. That looks a formality.

So the new US space policy looks to be agreed, $1.3bn will go to commercial companies for taxiing to the ISS and NASA has instructions to build a new rocket and long haul spaceship to take man beyond the ISS with basic elements of the systems ready by 31st December 2016.

The new rocket, will just be to launch stuff into orbit, and the new haul spaceship will replace the space shuttles.

Kind of disappointing, but it's better than nothing. Hopefully the replacements will be better than the old space shuttles.

With current tech, it would take 400,000 years to get there, 1.4 million theoretically if speed decreases in interstellar space like they say (leaving the sun's sphere of influence or something like that). And when we get there, we recall that we left our terraforming module back at home.

I hope they use this money to develop some faster than light travel or something. With the funding in the Manhattan project they built a nuke. If they set their resources straight, they could very well make some impressive advancements.
