Didn't see it mentioned on the news page nor the forum so I figured I would bring it up.

Friday, May 20 2005

We are pretty caught up with E3 (the Electronic Entertainment Expo) again this year. Half-Life 2 Xbox is playable on the show floor, and lots of people are trying their hand at the Gravity Gun. We can't wait to get the game into the hands of Xbox owners.

Our HDR (High Dynamic Range lighting) demonstration of HL2's Lost Coast is also on display. This soon-to-be-released area of Half-Life 2 introduces a new character, whom we first mentioned (in the form of a concept sketch) here.

There's also a screenshot of the fisherman and a picture of the Lost Coast booth from E3. Here's the link just in case you closed the update before you read it. :D http://www.steampowered.com/Steam/Marketing/May20.2005/

Thats cos your first to spot it! well done!

That fisherman picture looks fantastic.

I just logged in and saw these wonderfull news, i guess soon-to-be-released would mean sometime in the next week! :D

Hmm, all this bother with the HDR.....When have you really got any-time to stop and look at some adjusted lighting........I know i'd rather be kicking the crap out of combine then looking at lighting... the fact its going to need a high spec system annoys me and other but hey.... thats valve for ya.

I've heard rumors of a new type of combine soldiers for The Lost Coast with a new type of armour, so don't expect that you won't have to fight combine soldiers.

and it will be made available free of charge to Half-Life 2 customers that meet a specific set of high end hardware requirements.

Am I reading that right? If one doesn't have the hardware requirements, will Valve not give it to them? I'm covered, but if I didn't have the right hardware I'd sure still like to give it a try. How will Valve figure out ones hardware?

The lost coast is probably going to be free for anyone who owns hl2. The survey shows your hardware to valve, but I think it is not related to getting The lost coast. The fisherman's face is the most detailed face I have seen yet on Source :O and what's that in his hands ? a new weapon? :p

I think that just is the magnum :)

Amazing how times change. Last year this sort of thread would BE at 100 pages by now with thousands of responses.

Screenshot looks quite nice.

There is going to be an SDK release VERY soon, which will probably have the HDR code in.

From the mailing list.

I mean in the fisherman's hands :bounce:

Gee...If he's a fisherman...Obviously it's a fishing pole. :| :rolling:

Or after looking again, Maybe it's a fish? Or a spear?

;O the fisherman looks awesome. Is it me or does the water look more....ermm...fresh?

Possibly a whip or stick as we can see in the concept art?

Well... that fisherman has clean teeth. He's probably the most realistic looking character yet.

More detail. I WANT MORE DETAIL.

Something that can explode my computer ten times over.

How high are these system requirments going to be? I mean garys mod v8 has HDR in it and it runs perfectly on my comp.

Possibly a bloody knife in his hands? from gutting fish or something perhaps?

I just hope The Lost Coast is going to be playable on a Radeon 9800PRO or XT...
The fisherman looks amazing, and the houses in the distance with a nice HDR sky, plus the water really seems to look a bit more wet ;)

He looks boring, almost like one of the citizens.

The eye is a nice touch, though.

Gmod only has bloom in it, not full HDR. I believe someone at Valve said the system requirements are going to be something like... 3.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, and an x800 video card.
