Appologies to Farrowlesparrow and mrBadger for putting a sticky up in their board but this thing is spreading like wildfire.

http://www.onlinegaminghub.net/misc/msblast.txt
Contains all the information you'll need to get rid of it in basic english but the url at the bottom of that page is a lot more detailed.

AVG does not detect this virus afaik.

Paste to your friends and contacts please, cheers.

Jebus! I acctually had the virus!, how the hell did I get that !?

It causes your comp to reboot very very often, like every minute or so.

i causes the RPC connection you have with the internet to crash, which inturn makes your computer have to reboot. it only starts when your online, and it only affects windows 2000, and xp (pro and home) OS. so all you mac users out there are immune, you lucky bastards. it comes through port 135 or 139 in your firewall.. i think, but it also leaves a back door at port 4444 so rember to block that one.

Calling mac users lucky, haha.

Anyway, my comp hasnt shut down randomly very often, well never with a message but im going to check for it anyway...

How can you get this virus exactly? Are pr0n sites distritbuting it or something? Does it come through e-mail?

It just came in through whatever, no not pr0n sites or emails. It just came in through a flaw in MS security. I dunno im not a h4x0r. I just woke up this morning and my comp kept on rebooting time after time. Finally i managed to install the damn patch in time before it rebooted again.

It does some stuff to compile a random IP ( the ip of it's next victim ) then enters your pc through open ports, settles in, adds itself to the registry and wham, your infected.

So Windows 98 is completely unnafected? Sorry for spammin but it's kinda important @_@

I didnt have it, and I managed to get the patch to keep my pc safe from it (I hope)

YES! Safe!
Maybe I'm lucky to have my PSU fry on the XP computer just now, good timing :)

I just have one question, I got this virus the other day and was able to stop it, I just turned on a firewall and then downloaded all the updates from the microsoft(tm) :p website, but have completely stopped the virus or just diverted it. Will I get the virus back if I turn off the firewall
(I probably won't turn it off), or is it safe if I need to (if I need faster connection for gaming or whatever.) Any help would be great, thanks.
:):):):):)

Concidering they warn of a new variant that will circumvent the fix, no...
The firewall shouldnt make your gaming slower.

Yup..

I had it, along with some other things, so I thought, what the heck, I'll completely reformat both my drives. So I did. I installed a clean copy of WinXP anew.

Logged on.. and guess what? The second I logged on, I was infected. It's ridiculous, it was because I was online (24/7 cable). I didn't even have a chance to install a firewall or activate the WinXP one!

Needless to say, I got rid of it eventually using Nod32.

hehehe loser i got windows 98 :p:p Well anyway i really would of thought microsoft would be expecting this there hasnt been a major virus for a while

MS knew a month ago and tried to warn ppl
ppl only paid attention when it struck

*spam*
LOL.....Even without any viruses, my copy of WIN 98 is pretty messed up
*un spam*

The virus scans for a certain port (I think it's 135) and just slips in. Not too sure how. In other news, I was planning to let it stay on my computer because it's rumored that it will attack a microsoft site on the 16th.

But I don't like my computer to shut down of its own will. It might get ideas, you know?

W32.Blaster.Worm

There was a new removal tool on symantec's site but it still hasn't fixed my norton.

I paniced the first day i had the virus, so i reinstalled windows which was a huge mistake.

Now that i've reinstalled and downloaded microsoft's fix, My norton does not start anymore. It gives me an error saying that i have to reinstall but i've done that like 5 times... what is going on??

I sadly know a bloke who helped create the damn thing... or so he claims, he could be lieing. But I dont know, if he did... i'll punch him in the face... no, no i wont.. im not man enough.. ohh here i go rambling again

the virus was kind of tame to be honest albeit a pain in the ass.

It did actually have full local axx to your pc so could have deleted files or anything... however it doesn't, I think the virus programmers were just trying to point out to M$ how poop their OS security is.

Problem with M$ systems today is that they dont just want it to be an OS they have to build in all sorts of programs as standard, they looking for and have got market dominance in so many products. Maybe if they would have just stuck to doing a pure OS that they would not have the security problems they have now :/

just my 2p worth :E :bounce:

You can imagine it in years to come, when computers have been a part of society like they are now, for some time. People will be like "I remember the virus of 2020...Oh that was a killer. People waged war on that thing for three years until it was stopped. Took out most of the network in the eastern sea board...You better hope never to see anything like that..."

Heh, that virus was so shitty, today it was supposed to attack microsoft but it didn't have the right web adress, HAHA

me guisses that someone was just trying to scare the shat out of people.

It got in the news though...so i think it did pretty well. I dont see why people are complaining that it wasnt that good. What if it had burnt your graphics card or something?

I have the same problem with my Norton 2003 ... well, not exactly the same..... I can't run the live update, so my Norton is useless. I deleted it, reinstalled it.. Nothing work... by the way, I can't run the Windows XP Update either.. It say i have the lastest patch available..
But uh? i have a fresh install of Windows XP Pro and i don't have any patch installed....

HELP!!!
