Looking sweeeeeet. Level 5 has quickly become one of my favorite developers on the scene. Their games have been just plain awesome and this looks to up the ante even further.

PS3 finally has an exclusive game that looks like something I'd like. I wonder what the gameplay will be like!

When is it coming to the US?

What other games have they done?
 
the last shot looks nice, but these kinds of games to interest me.
 
Like the view distance. But overall it does not look that impressive, especially technically from those screenshots. It looks on par with guild wars in technical terms.

Mid 2008 I think. :( It is supposed to be out by the end of the year in Japan, so that is a safe guess. We will surely find out more in September at the Tokyo Game Show.

Its still hard to argue that Dragon Quest VIII, Rogue Galaxy, and Dark Cloud 2 were not really great games though. Those are easily in my Top Ten PS2 games of all time, so I have a soft-spot in me for Level-5.
 
Dark cloud 2 was pretty disappointing for me, it wasn't a bad game or anything... but this isn't Dark cloud 2, so ...

I never played the first one, but I thought the review scores DC2 got were actually too high, being disappointed and all.
 
Dargon Quest VIII was so awesome, this cannot be said enough.

why are so many japanese games so poorly titled?

"we need to pick a name for our game ..umm how about Halo? no ..ummm Oblivion? no ...well I'm stumped, White knight Story it is ..cuz we have a white knight ..and it's a story, gamers will love it"


nice graphics although the the day glow colours makes me see spots in front of my eyes

Truth has never had so much truth to it.


However, the Shoguns, Ninjas, Japanese Warlords, Samurais, etc., usually look Japanese.

Anyway, that's why Shenmue was so awesome. I felt like I was in Japan.

Yeah, I am hoping that this is just a poor translation and that once it gets localized it will get a new name too. Most likely it will because the N.A. market would not exactly be drawn to a game with this title, even if it is really terrific.

All of their games have been really colorful and that is actually one of the things I have liked most about them. No gritty, realistic FPS-type textures/color pallets here, just a colorful and slightly stylized fantasy setting. So far they have done no wrong (imho) and this title should hopefully live up to their previous efforts.

ya they really should look at properly localising japanese content ..that goes for all media not just video games

ya it was more a comment on japanese creative sensibility than the game itself ..love everything japanese from industrial design to traditional illustration ..it's just that some of it is too much of a senses overload ..I guess that's just part of japanese culture ..everything has to be over the top
 
Graphics aren't very impressive, and I can all but guarantee the last shot is FMV.

Then again, it is Level 5, I'm sure the gameplay will hold up.
 
I guess you guys haven't seen the trailer from a while back that showed some seriously beautiful gameplay footage and menus and such. It looks mightily impressive running. Level-5 excels at creating deep, beautiful, fun-filled games.
 
I saw the trailer. As I said, the graphics are unimpressive (remember, unimpressive != bad), but the gameplay will probably hold up :P

But that isn't to say that I don't think it is any less gorgeous and simply oozes artistic frickin gold!!
 
I wouldn't say it's artistic gold, but it's definitely no Oblivion in that regard.

Actually, that face in the picture is a face of a real person. He used the new Eye toy camera for the PS3 to get his face into the game. I saw it somewhere. I'll try to find it.

Ok, this one just got ten times cooler if not more!! I had no idea about the eyetoy functionality!! If that is the case, this just went way up my most-wanted PS3 games list!!
 
I live smack dab in the middle of little hong kong with a smattering of other asian cultires ..I'm familiar with how they look ..they're not as effeminate as that guy ..not that that matters in the least, I was just asking a question

He's just a Japanese male model. Some of our male models look pretty darn effeminate too you know. Look at this guy for instance...:P
 
true but it's not just the face ..that japanese model looks frail almost waif like ..that's not how male models look in the west ..and frankly I find it disturbing: eat a bloody sandwich ffs man!!
 
There is nothing wrong with the way he looks, he just dresses like a woman and has a unisex hairstyle. Must be the style there. :naughty:
 
I couldnt care less what people wear ..like I said I live smack in the middle of little hong kong ..there's a ton of recent immigrants who are young and fashionable and with a shit load of money who dress bizarrely but I dont care either way, I like different cultures ..that isnt the point ..I really did think it was a woman, till I looked closer ..skinny in the west is frowned upon ..at least for men, not so with women

Bit off-topic but to answer Stern and a few others:

Being in Hong Kong, I've actually asked quite a few girls about abundance of skinny males ...

The general consensus was that girls prefer skinny males over someone who's built / cut. Hell most of them said they'd rather have the male be chubby rather than ripped. Of course, the best however, is being in shape but not overly muscular (which is perfect for me since I'm too lazy to work out but my metabolism holds out so I'm no slob).

Same with the clothes, girls dig the skinny jeans and whatnot. As for the hairstyle, it's more with to do with our hair being thicker and just overall being quite different in structure compared to other races, which means the white styles don't work on us and we're forced to adapt.
