I got a weird one here. I got a new Abit AV7 mobo and AthlonXP 3000 there and after installing it and setting the proc to 3000+ (333) in the bios the system wouldn't boot. No POST errors, no video and I have to remove the cmos battery to get back into the bios.. I set it to 2800 (333) and it was fine. Set it back and nothing again. Thing is, it runs fine at 3000+ (400). I'm using it with 1.5gb of pc2700 ram. Any ideas? Is it likely to damage anything running at this speed?

i suggest RMA'ing the cpu, or perhaps updating your mobo bios.

I think your ram (2700) isn't up to hitting 400. Try giving it more volts and if that doesn't do it, then get rid of the ram and buy some DDR400-DDR500. Or use a 4:3 multiplyer. But it is odd that it would work at 3000+ with 400. So try just upping the volts a tad.

he said it works at 400...

Yeah, I edited my post after I remembered him saying that. But I've had a computer hit 400 at 3000+ but not 400 at 3200+ before or 2800+ for some odd reason. I fixed it by upping the volts. And no, you're not likely to damage anything running at that speed. 3000+ runs naturally at 400.

Yeah, that's the screwed up part. It ran fine at 333Mhz on my old Asus A7V333 mobo with an Athlon 2500+..... I'll update the bios tonight but xtasy0, what did you mean by RMAing the proc?

returning it to the manufacturer and getting it replaced with a working cpu, assuming there is something wrong with the current cpu (there probably isn't)

Yeah, I don't think it's faulty. Still cheers for the replys lads and I'll let you know if the bios update works....

No change with the bios update. I reseated everything and tested the ram one dimm at a time in each slot too. I'll mention it in the shop I got it in and see what they say. Even if it's nothing at least they'll have a record if it does go belly up later.
