getting new mobo, cos my current abit kt7-a doesnt have 8x agp support, and i want something to secure my pc's future.

will the asus a7n8x with the nforce2 chipset work with a radeon 9800? since they're different brands and they like rivalling?

Nforce2 is the best ATI platform ever :)

Anyway, dont buy it just cause you want 8x AGP. It isnt worth it... And its expected to shift soon, with the introduction of the PCI-Express. AGP will be outdated. Need to see the rest of the specs on the computer to make sure if its worth upgrading the mobo... The 9800 might be able to run just fine on it.

I never use AGP 8x, it causes my compter to crash during games.

pc specs fyi:

amd xp 1800+
geforce 4 ti 4200 64mb (wanting to get radeon 9800 128mb)
abit kt7-a mobo
512mb SDRAM
300w psu (i think)

i dont mind playing lowish res, so i thought my cpu would be ok for now, all i really wanted to upgrade was my gpu, but im worried my mobo only does up to 4x agp and won't be able to handle the radeon...

It will handle it. The problem comes with the mobo itself and the PSU... The mobo *might* handle the 9800 (it does technically), but some chipsets can be troublesome... The PSU on the other hand would be a choice to upgrade. I would say, try it! Buy a 9800 if you want, and just put it in there. If it can run it good is another matter.

yea, i was always thinking about getting a new psu, easy to do, and easy + cheap to get a decent one.
haven't had any mobo problems thus far, apart from the chipset fan not working anymore, but theres a heatsink also on it and its still working fine. don't think the mobo can handle over 2ghz tho without flashing the bios, thats unrelated tho, prolly just gonna buy the card, get a new psu and hope it works, might do a bit mroe research first tho
