NEXON, a world leader in online game development, today announces a licensing agreement to use Source, Valve's leading game engine, to power a new title in production for the PC. The upcoming Source-based game, which will to be formally announced at a later date, will be a fantasy based, third-person action title.
We evaluated all the engine technologies available for licensing and Source was our best choice, said Dong-gun Kim, the producer of NEXON. With support for integrated network-physics, high-end visuals, and constant adoption of new features, Source is both the most flexible as well as the most robust technology set available today.
It's an honor to have one of the leading publishing and development studios in the world working with Source, said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. We look forward to working closely with NEXON to supply them with the tools and technology needed to create a working base for creating top-notch games that will be recognized as world-class online offerings.
Nexon - Founded in 1994, NEXON developed the world's first graphic massive multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG), The Kingdom of the Winds." Today, NEXON is one of Korea's leading publishers of online games and the largest online gaming portal. NEXON is servicing its online game titles in Korea, US, China, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore and Europe. Hit title"Kart Rider" has more than 15 million total registered users in Korea, a third of the entire Korean population. And after one year of service in China, "Kart Rider" has attracted 100 million registered users and 800,000 concurrent users.

First time I've heard of NEXON, they sound quite epic.

Somehow online and source just don't mix for an MMO company. Anyone tried 64 player CS Source? It doesn't work.

After quickly checking wikipedia I have heard of none of these people's games.

Look up the game "MapleStory" and you will see what they have done.

I've heard of Maplestory. It's rather popular. However never heard Kart Rider or the company and that sounds HUGE.

Only because the netcode is geared to best support 16-or-fewer-players servers.

how can they be a leading game company when most people have never heard of them...?

maple story...ugh...oh well more money for valve I guess...

Leading game company in another country?

You catch on quick..!

May be this will push some interesting netcode updates into Source.

Well, the netcode was going to get updated anyway, what with 64-player Team Fortress 2 matches. Guess this company caught on.

... Where the hell did you get that 100 Million user stat... last time I checked it was 10 Million...

Blizzard has like what ... 8 million WoW users?!

8 million paying a monthly fee. As far as I know Kart Rider is free to play but then you pay for addons such as new avatars/karts etc etc, a bit like Sony's "Home" thingy.

That's the way MMORPG's are going - free to play but you have to pay for all the little things.

Honestly I'd much preferr it if they'd stuff mmo's full with commercials instead.

would be neat if a future-based mmorpg or something was created that showed updating and dynamic commercials on posters and billboards on the walls, rooftops etc. as long as I get to play without soddy monthly fees I'm good.

Agreed. I don't mind buying the game Guild Wars style either. I'd prefer ads than paying for items.
