September 23, 2005 - Fresh from their Liberation Party last night to celebrate the impending release of Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood, Gearbox announced today that the company has licensed Epic's Unreal 3 Engine for the next iteration of the Brothers in Arms series as well as unspecified upcoming games.

Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software, stated that the company has "chosen Unreal Engine 3 as the exclusive technology we will use for all of our own titles going forward into the next generation"

According to an unconfirmed report from last night's party, Epic showed off some work for BiA 3 that included a "stunning" 3d model of a tank, artillery piece, and a character model with "impressive" character design. The report went on to state that the short demo involving a combat scene that featured "glass flying everywhere, and just debris like crazy flying around" while trying to dislodge three or four German soldiers from a storefront.

You can be assured that as we get more information regarding last night's party and the next generation Brothers in Arms presentation that we will bring it to you. Realistic World War 2 action and the Unreal Engine 3? Count us in!

Finally we'll see some good graphics for BiA, the first one's graphics wasnt really good.

I didn't mind the graphics at all. It was the stupid "you HAVE to outflank every damn fritz you encounter, no matter if you can see more than 40% of his body, including his whole head, because, you see, he is hiding behind a wooden fence, and bullets can't go through 1 inch wooden planks now, can they" gameplay that sucked.

Flanking is a nice concept, but making enemies immortal untill you flank them is worse than dumb. It's insulting.

.bog.

yeah, the flanking got annoying really fast

Some people liked the flanking, some people didn't. Personally I liked it for 3 hours, then I started hating it.

I actually spent about 6 hours on the demo, then never played the whole thing. =P

It's cool until you figure out the fact that your squad mates are complete tards.

Well it makes choosing games easier. Since everyone is using the same underlying tech, we probably wont see a huge difference in graphical quality. I know things will be different between games but I dont think we will see Doom 3 vs HL2 differences or Quake 3 vs HL2 differences like this generation.

Oh well I guess many games will be based on art direction now. I just hope the engine cost wont be very high to influence game prices (dont remember what they are charging)

Doesn't matter how good the graphics are, Brothers in Arms is the most generic piece of shit FPS you can get for 50 bucks. Every single enemy encounter follows the same four steps ad nauseum. Spot the enemy, supress the enemy, flank the enemy, shoot the enemy. There is nothing else to do. Therefore, everytime you encounter the enemy, you do the same exact thing. Nothing mixes it up at all. Let's say there's an MG nest down the street with two guys firing it at you. Tell your team to supress them. Now, look to your left and to your right because most likely, there is an extremely convenient opening in a brick wall which will allow you to sneek around to the other side of the nest and kill them where they least expect it. Lather, rinse, repeat.

The two guys in the BiA trailers make it sound like "Oh look the enemy is now supressed, so I need to find a way around him to flank him. Okay, thank God the gate is open on this 2 foot tall wooden fence. If it wasn't there, I would have absolutely no way to flank them since I can't jump or climb over small obstacles. Well, I flanked him. He realizes he's in trouble and he fires at me but it's too late. I got him. Amazing isn't it? So dynamic and unscripted. Well, on to our next encounter."

Worst FPS I have ever played, and I have played "Navy Seals: Weapons of Mass Destruction" so that's saying something.

I thought the game was quite alright...

Wait, now that I think of it, the story pwned. And I liked the fact that you could rip off limbs with nades :E

And for some reason you guys probably won't understand, I couldn't get enough of the game. I played it 4 times through (one time with cheats on just for fun)
