hey, i need a new pair of headphones, i had some of questions.

1. What are a good pair of headphones for under 50 bucks? If there is a really good pair that you cant live without for a little more, i guess thats ok :P

2. Besides headphones, do i need a nicer soundcard then my SB Live! 5.1 to hear the full quality of the headphones?

3. I currently have a cheap 10 dollar pair of headphones, they sound ok, but if i got a nicer pair, would the sound in games like HL2 be a lot better?

Thank you for your time. :D

Why buy headphones when you can buy a new processor?....errr.....a nicer pair of headphone than your $10 ones would sound a lot better. most gineric headphones use crappy paper-type material for the cones which means they cant handle as wide a range frequencies. get a good pair and your soundcard should be fine. Oh, and as for what are a good pair? I dunno...but i have a pair made by Optimus which has a built in microhpone (Good if you're playing on a private server or something where people actually utilize the communication aspect), i recommend getting some with a mic if you plan on playing CSS seriously or something.

the mic isnt a big concern becuase i have an external one that sits in front of me that i like to use. What do you think about these? It has good reviews from the users.

A little big for my taste, but they look really confortable, and they are a good price. Also says they will last a long time, and it has a good warrenty. Plus i like circuit city, they are good with returns. :D What do you think?

review there.

I have those headphones too but they hurt my ears after awhile, although I haven't used them for a long time since I had some other ones that had a mic until they broke :( I gotta find a headset with mic too now. I want a behind the neck pair of headphones though, I was thinking a Plantronics Audio 70 or a Logitech Extreme gaming headset.

ok thanks guys, i finally went out and bought a pair of Sennheiser HD457, and ive never heard such good sound. It may not be the best, but ive never heard music like this. Its great, and in games too. You can hear everything, it helps a lot in counterstrike, i can hear people outside of the walls in Assualt, and i can shoot them through the wall if i wanted to. (not a good idea though lol). Anyway, they sound great, thanks for all the help.

Also, i have a pair of crappy speakers that i plug into my soundcard in my computer. The speakers have a headphone jack in the back of them. Would there be a difference in sound if i plugged the headphones directly into the soundcard of my computer, instead of plugging the headphones into the speakrs? I dont hear a difference, but im curious anyway :P
