HL2.net was one of the best things that have ever happened to me. I mean, look around. There are more interesting people per bit here than per square kilometer in my country.

I know, I know, many of you new faces don't even know me. And I'll explain the reasons for such next...

The short story of Alex's life by Sprafa

Once upon a time there was a little boy. This little boy was named Alex. He was amazed, constantly amazed by mankind. He learned and learned, and he realized one day that his next step would be the great Kindgom of the Internet. The Kingdom of the Internet was vast, they said, too vast for any men to cover. Many languages were spoken there, they said. So, the Kindgom of the Internet freightened the elders.

They started believing it would take their children away! Apparently, the Kingdom of Internet was were minions managed to control their innocent children. "But wait", Alex said! Couldn't they do that by other means, just the same ? "No", the Elders said, "thru the Internet, the minions gain great powers". "How strange", Alex said. "What's the difference?", he asked. "Do not Question the Elder Knowledge, weakling", they answered.

Alex thought that was a strange way of thinking. If he didn't questioned the Elders, he could never go to the Internet Kingdom. If he did, the Elders would feel betrayed, and stop sharing knowledge with him. So, Alex went to the Internet Kingdom, alone, without the knowledge adquired by the Elders. After all, they thought it was an instrument of evil...

When he finnaly entered however, he saw not a World of Darkness, but a World of Light! "How strange!" he thought. "How could the Elders be wrong?".....

One of the first communities he found was Half Life the 2nd. "Hmmm..." Alex wondered "I've heard of Half Life the 1st. What's up with this 2nd coming?". So he went inside of the castle of Lord Munro, where great debates were made by the inhabitants. Apparently, there had been a theft, and the Great Makers were pleading for help of the people. "I don't think I can help much there" Alex thought. So he wandered thru the houses of the Palace, and he met the Counts that helped the Lord of the castle. There was Count Badger, Count Fenric, Count Simmo, Count Abom, Count Side of Winds and many others, but these were that most struck Alex. After all, he was new at the Kindgom of the Internet.

Time passed. His duties at the so called Real World were easy, and Alex could split his time between the Internet Kingdom and the Real World. Many in the Real World said that the Internet Kingdom wasn't "true", that he should return effectively to the Real World. But to Alex, the Internet Kingdom was more "true" than the Real World. In the Real World everything they talked about was meaningless things to Alex. In the Internet Kingdom he could learn more and talk about it. "Why can't the Real World be like the Internet Kingdom..." Alex whispered. He met people he had only heard about in books. Anarchists, Russians, wanderers...

But the time came for Alex to grow. He had to make a choice. His duties at the Real World, namely building his future there, were too important to be left aside. So he had to leave the Internet Kingdom for a while. He met new people, most of them unisteresting. 1 or 2 mildly interested Alex, but he soon found out they were just more grain. "How can't they realize they're just little pawns in someone's chess board?" Alex questioned himself. Even if you never leave the chess board, he thought, you have to aspire to higher positions. That's why he had to leave the Internet Kingdom. He had to build his future...

He soon remet the Elders. They were furious. After all, he had betrayed them. They were reluctant to even shelter Alex. They fought. Alex wanted to return to the Internet Kingdom for a while. They didn't want him to, althought he described to them the great light of the place, and their misconceptions of it.

Alex returned to Internet Kingdom, even though the Elders disapproved of it. Although they lived under the same roof, the Elders and Alex refused to speak to each other. And so went the story....

Hey, someone else who knows Latin! :bounce: (apparently better than I do]

I got most of it, but celare eludes me.
Something about "The adversaries habitually deprive [mental power?], [celare] of the second (or maybe again?)"

Man, I wish I had more latin classes :(

Anyway, welcome back, and thanks for the...interesting return story :)

Latin rocks harder than any other language I know of.

I'll just copy Ikerous now...

Welcome back sexy

nice short story, mind if i use it for my literacy class?

so does this mean we get more random out of context posts which are merely copies of texts written by those other than you? :p

welcome back, glad you like my name for you ;)

My elders could beat up your elders any day.

Nice story, and welcome back.

Man, I wish I had more latin classes :(

Latin is often more fun on the internet than in class:p. My translation of that sentence would be:

"Adversity tends to reveal genius, prosperity tends to hide it."

"res adversae" = adversity, it's a latin expression, like "res publica" means "the state"
"solent" = tends to, there are more possible translations though like "usually" which is what you used
"nudare" = (to) reveal
"ingenium" = genius/talent/etc
"celare" = hide, a bit of a weird one though, wasn't in my dictionary. "celator" however was, which means "one who hides" so I derived it from that, makes sense too.
"(res) secundae" = prosperity, same as res adversae

Google revealed it as a Horace quote, so I have a feeling Harij didn't write it himself, unless Horace recently reincarnated :p. BUT OF COURSE WE STILL WUV YOU HARIJ <3<3<3 *ahem* carry on

So from what I understand. Your parents don't like you on the internet, but you say NAH NAH NAH NAH, and they say, ow well fine not talking to you.

Welcome back sprafa, enjoy it. Crazyharij was gone for 5 minutes as well, around after you left.

Great story. I guess you fell out with your parents? I hate it when that happens. In my house if I fell out with my parents I would be grounded and left to live off stale bread and water locked in my room :(
